* Feidlimid mac Cremthanin, king of Munster

* Battle of Magh-Ochtar ( Kildare, Ireland ): Feidlimid mac Cremthanin is defeated by the Southern Uí Neill.

* According to the Annals of Inisfallen, a royal meeting between Feidlimid mac Cremthanin, King of Cashel and Niall, King of the Southern Uí Neill and Tara at Cluain-Conaire-Tommain, results in Feidlimid becoming High-King of Ireland.

Later rulers from the Eóganachta who would dominate a greater part of Ireland were Cathal mac Finguine and Feidlimid mac Cremthanin.

Feidlimid mac Cremthanin, king-bishop of Cashel, who became King of Munster in 821 and died in 847, was a patron of the monastic foundation at Derrynaflan and has been suggested as a possible patron of the chalice.

Serious challenges to the Uí Néill were however presented by Cathal mac Finguine and Feidlimid mac Cremthanin, who, although not widely recognized as high-kings or Kings of Tara, as they did not belong to the Uí Néill, did control territories in their lifetimes the extent of which were as great or greater than those of the other dynasty.
