Jerry Cavanagh died of a heart attack on November 27, 1979 at St. Joseph Hospital on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington, Kentucky.

In addition to Boonesborough, other settlements, notably Harrodsburg, were established at this time.

After the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862, Confederate Gen. Braxton Bragg's Army of Mississippi abandoned its invasion of Kentucky and withdrew to Harrodsburg, Kentucky, where it was joined by Maj. Gen. Kirby Smith's army of 10, 000 on October 10.

Other settlements, notably Harrodsburg, were also established at this time.

Beattyville, Irvine, Richmond, Lancaster, Nicholasville, Harrodsburg, Wilmore, Versailles, Lawrenceburg, and Frankfort also draw water from the river for their municipal water supplies.

Seven years later, in 1858, Bacon College's charter was amended to establish Kentucky University, and moved to donated land in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
