Xico was conquered by the Aztec Tezozomoc in 1381, after which groups of Mexicas settle here extending the chinampa farming system in the 14th and 15th centuries.

In 1418, Ixtlilxochitl I, the tlatoani ( ruler ) of Texcoco, was dethroned by Tezozomoc of Azcapotzalco.

In 1418, when the young prince was fifteen, the Tepanecs of Azcapotzalco, led by Tezozomoc, conquered Texcoco and Nezahualcoyotl had to flee into exile in Huexotzinco, returning to stay in Tenochtitlan in 1422.

He married princess Huacaltzintli and had a son Tezozomoc and was a grandfather of Axayacatl, Tizoc and Ahuitzotl.

When he assumed the throne at age 20, Tenochtitlan was a tributary of the Tepanec city of Azcapotzalco, which was ruled by his grandfather Tezozomoc.

Chimalpopoca interceded with Tezozomoc on his behalf, and Tezozomoc agreed to allow Netzahualcoyotl to live in Tenochtitlan under his protection.

His son was Tezozomoc, king of Ecatepec.

When Tezozomoc died in 1427 after a long reign, he was succeeded by his son Tayatzin.

Tezozomoc Yacateteltetl ( also Tezozómoc, Tezozomoctli, Tezozomoctzin ; born 1320 ), was a Tepanec leader who ruled the altepetl ( ethnic state ) of Azcapotzalco from the year 1353 or Five Reed ( 1367 ) or Eight Rabbit ( 1370 ) until his death in the year Twelve Rabbit ( 1426 ).

Histories written down in the early colonial period portray Tezozomoc as a military and political genius who oversaw an expansion of Tepanec influence, bringing about Azcapotzalco's dominance in the Valley of Mexico and beyond.

Tezozomoc was a son of Acolnahuacatzin and Cuetlaxochitzin.
