The terms geab and geabaire are certainly Irish words but the phrase " geab ar ais " does not exist, and the word gibberish exists as a loan-word in Irish as gibiris, defined by Ó Dónaill as " Gibberish.

As an arranger and composer his credits include, The Seville Suite which was inspired by the exploits of Aodh Rua Ó Dónaill from The Battle of Kinsale in 1601 until his arrival in Galicia to the welcome of The Spanish Earl of Caraçena.

On 15 August 1599, the Battle of Curlew Pass between English and Irish forces was fought in the Curlew mountains during the Nine Years ' War, between an English force under Sir Conyers Clifford and a rebel Irish force led by Aodh Rua Ó Dónaill.

The letters j, q, w, x, y and z are used primarily in scientific terminology or direct, unaltered borrowings from English and other languages, although the phoneme does exist naturally in at least one dialect, that of West Muskerry, Co. Goffraidh Ó Dónaill, the first chieftain, was son of Dónall Mór Ó Dónaill.

A male's surname generally takes the form Ó / Ua ( originally " grandson ") or Mac (" son ") followed by the genitive case of a name, as in Ó Dónaill (" grandson of Dónall ") or Mac Gearailt (" son of Gerald ").

Thus the daughter of a man named Ó Dónaill has the surname Ní Dhónaill and the daughter of a man named Mac Gearailt has the surname Nic Gearailt.

Thus a woman marrying a man named Ó Dónaill may choose to be use Bean Uí Dhónaill or Uí Dhónaill as her surname ; a woman marrying a man named Mac Gearailt may choose to use Bean Mhic Gearailt or Mhic Gearailt.

The only work by Ó Cléirigh to be published in his lifetime, a glossary called Foclóir nó Sanasán Nua, appeared in 1643.

Their leader bore the ancient Irish title of " An Ó Máille " (" The O ' Malley ", or " The O ' Mealey "-as the name is also anglicised ).

The head of the O ' Donnell family had the titles An Ó Domhnaill ( meaning The O ' Donnell in English ) and Rí Thír Chonaill ( meaning King of Tír Chonaill in English ).

" O " was originally Ó which in turn came from Ua, which means " grandson ", or " descendant " ( of a named person ).
