Since the early 1990s, many American Chinese restaurants influenced by California cuisine have opened in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

On November 15, 2007, attention was brought once again to Barry Bonds as he was indicted by a federal grand jury for perjury and obstruction of justice in connection to his testimony before the grand jury regarding the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative ( BALCO ), a San Francisco Bay area lab known to be involved in the distribution of steroids to professional athletes.

A spin-off, " People's Park Annex ," was established at the same time by activist citizens of Berkeley on a strip of land above the Bay Area Rapid Transit subway construction along Hearst Avenue northwest of the U. C.

Some moved because of the rising cost of living throughout the Bay Area, and others because of the decline and disappearance of many industries in West Berkeley.

This is particularly so in Sydney and Melbourne, where headways on many lines in the core of the network reach 3 – 5 minutes in peaks and 10 – 20 minutes off peak ( about 18 hours a day ) and enter an underground loop for passenger distribution in the city centre ; and where ridership per capita exceeds the sum of metro and commuter rail in comparable North American urban areas such as Toronto, Boston or the San Francisco Bay Area.
