* Rassilon, Omega, and that Other guy — every fact about Gallifrey no matter how apocryphal

This leads to Rassilon becoming part of a ruling triumvirate with Omega and a mysterious figure called the Other.

The latter novel Lungbarrow shows Rassilon becoming increasingly tyrannical and violently crushing resistance to his reforms, which ultimately leads to the Other breaking with him and throwing himself into the genetic looms, leading to his later apparent reincarnation as the Doctor.

In that novel, the Doctor is revealed to be the reincarnation of " the Other ", a shadowy figure and contemporary of Rassilon and Omega from Ancient Gallifrey.

Like Rassilon, various contradictory legends surround the Other, some hinting that he had powers surpassing that of Rassilon or Omega, and some even suggesting that he was not born on the Time Lords ' home world of Gallifrey.

After the series was resumed in 2005, the Time Lords were presented as no longer existing, having been destroyed by the Doctor at some intervening point during the Last Great Time War in which they became corrupted, lead by a tyrannical Lord President Rassilon willing to sacrifice the entirety of time and space for survival.

The Time Lords portrayed were the high council of Gallifrey led by a resurrected Rassilon in the final days of the Time War.

The ancient alarms left by Rassilon were not known and could not be shut off, leaving the Hand to lurk around the Doctor's rooms.

Omega and Rassilon were both members of this project, and when sabotage sent Omega hurtling into the newly created black hole, he was presumed lost.

Rassilon went to kill the Doctor in revenge, but was badly hurt by a vengeful Master, learning the truth that his life was manipulated by the president, as Rassilon, the other Time Lords, and Gallifrey were all sent directly back into the Time Lock and the last day of the Last Great Time War.

Elements of this effort were liberally scattered through Seasons 25 and 26 of the series, and occasionally included hints about the Doctor's past ; for example, in Silver Nemesis, when Ace and the Doctor discuss the creation of validium, the Doctor mentions that it was created by Omega and Rassilon.

The other two members of the Triumvirate were Rassilon and Omega.

The Doctor does not regenerate, however ; when Rassilon killed Townsend, Tepesh and Winkle those parts of him were removed, and when Charley stabbed him they were restored saving him from death.

The Hand was hidden by Rassilon, but escaped just before the Doctor left Gallifrey.

Rassilon was confronted by the Tenth Doctor who was left with the choice of killing either the Master or Rassilon with a gun he had been given by his companion Wilfred Mott to sever the link.

The supernova subsequently collapsed into a black hole, the nucleus of which was harnessed by Omega's colleague Rassilon as the Eye of Harmony, and giving the Time Lords the power to live up to their name.

In " The Two Doctors " ( 1985 ), the Sixth Doctor claims that Rassilon enjoyed fishing and advocated its practice by Time Lords, but on questioning by Peri, admits he may have just made it up, which can be said to illustrate the Time Lord propensity for pretension which could have obfuscated the truth from the official history.

Rassilon and the Brigadier avatar have chained up the Doctor and are preparing to torture him.

In The Two Doctors, the Doctor states that the " Rassilon Imprimatur " allows Time Lords to safely travel through time, becoming symbionts with their TARDISes, and that the reason other species are incapable of developing time travel are that they lack the imprimatur.

The Time Lord penchant for ceremony extends to their technology, with various artefacts given weighty names like the Hand of Omega, the Eye of Harmony or the Key of Rassilon.

In the context of the series, Omega is known as one of the founding fathers of the Time Lords of the planet Gallifrey, and is a revered figure in Time Lord history together with the equally legendary Rassilon ; the Third Doctor refers to him as the Time Lords ' " greatest hero ".

Using the Hand, Omega performed adjustments on a star near Gallifrey's in an attempt to provide a power source for the time travel experiments he conducted with Rassilon.

The other Doctors try to fight against the power of Borusa's mind with the Coronet, but they are interrupted by the voice of Rassilon.

The story of Omega's supernova becoming the black hole that provided Rassilon with the Eye of Harmony became part of the fan-accepted mythology and was incorporated into the Virgin New Adventures novels.

He explains to Jamie that once the briode nebuliser of the module is primed with his symbiotic nuclei — the Rassilon Imprimatur — it will be safe for anyone to use.

Rassilon subsequently captured the nucleus of the black hole and used its power to perfect time travel technology.

The Doctor explains what he has deduced: that the Eye is actually the nucleus of a black hole, an inexhaustible energy source that Rassilon captured to power Gallifrey ; the Sash and Key are its control devices.

According to the ancient records, the legendary Time Lord figure Rassilon captured and placed the Eye, a nucleus of a black hole, beneath the Time Lord's citadel on Gallifrey ( the Panopticon ).

Rassilon placed the black hole's nucleus in an eternally dynamic equation against the mass of Gallifrey and so that as long as the Eye existed in this " balanced state ", the power of the Time Lords would " neither flux nor wither ".

Omega, a stellar engineer, was presumed killed by the supernova that created the black hole later known as the Eye of Harmony, and Rassilon harnessed the nucleus of the black hole to provide the energy that powers time travel.

The Rassilon Imprimatur is the name given to the symbiotic nucleus of a Time Lord's cell structure which allows them to withstand the molecular stresses of time travel and grant them a link to their TARDIS time machines.

As Engin plays the records of the Old Time, which describes how Rassilon found the Eye of Harmony within the " black void ", the Doctor realises these objects are not merely ceremonial.

Rassilon then took control of the project, and the power of the black hole.

* The Sash of Rassilon allows the wearer to be in close proximity to the quantum singularity that is the Eye of Harmony, providing protection from the Eye's gravitational and energy forces, and preventing the wearer from being drawn across the event horizon of the captured black hole.

In knowledge of this and the threat posed by the Doctor's possession of " the Moment ," Rassilon and his fellow councillors tried to escape the Lock by retroactively planting a four note drumbeat ( the rhythm of a Time Lord's heartbeats ) into the Master's brain ( the sound of which eventually drove the Master insane ) and use a Whitepoint Star, a diamond only found on Gallifrey, to create a link between the final hours of the Time War and present-day Earth.

As seen in The Deadly Assassin, the Eye was linked to two other Gallifreyan artefacts, the Sash of Rassilon and the Great Key of Rassilon.

Confusingly, this is a separate artifact from the so-called Great Key of Rassilon, that provides direct tapping of the near limitless energies of the Eye of Harmony, and is cited as a vital component part of the demat gun ( a weapon of mass destruction ); it is also hinted that this ` key ` is essential to accessing the other relative dimensions in time, in The Invasion of Time.

* The Rod of Rassilon ( referred to as " the Great Key " in the Book of the Old Time in " The Deadly Assassin ") allows the user to physically access the containment / control apparatus of the Eye of Harmony itself, that was historically hidden beneath the Panopticon central dias.

This hidden compartment held the controls for the Time Scoop-a rudimentary ` time corridor ` technology, used presumably before time travel was perfected by Rassilon after the installation of the Eye of Harmony on Gallifrey.

Resurrected Lord President Rassilon also believed that this action would elevate them to a higher form of existence, becoming " pure consciousness.

However, there are other accounts which paint Rassilon as an opportunistic, ambitious and cruel dictator who seized power in the wake of his friend's death ( for which some suggest he may have been deliberately responsible ).
