French poet Paul Verlaine's " Chanson d ' automne " (" Autumn Song ") is likewise characterised by strong, painful feelings of sorrow.

In preparation for Operation Overlord, the BBC had signaled to the French Resistance that the opening lines of the 1866 Verlaine poem " Chanson d ' Automne " were to indicate the start of D-Day operations.

This saga found its most piquant beginning in the Hermit's vision at Jerusalem, and there it accordingly began — alike in Albert, followed by William of Tyre and in the Chanson des chétifs, followed by the later Chanson d ' Antioche.
