* The Oxford University bumping races known as Eights Week and Torpids
Hertford College Boat Club is among the leading Oxford college boat clubs: both its women's and men's first boats are in the first division of Torpids and Eights Week.
Eights Week, also known as Summer Eights, is a four-day regatta of bumps races which constitutes the University of Oxford's main intercollegiate rowing event of the year.
Generally, and at Oxford during Eights Week, once a bump has occurred both crews pull over to the river bank and take no further part in that race.
Eights Week and Torpids, Oxford University's two main rowing events, and Christ Church Regatta are held on the Thames here.
Commemoration Week was formerly one of two occasions when balls were traditionally held, the other being Eights Week, the 5th week of Trinity term when the Summer Eights rowing races occur.
