Group and multicast
These switches use IP addresses and Internet Group Management Protocol for control of the multicast routing but use MAC addresses for the actual routing.
A multicast protocol, usually Internet Group Management Protocol, is used to manage delivery of multicast streams to the groups of recipients on a LAN.
The Internet Group Management Protocol ( IGMP ) is a communications protocol used by hosts and adjacent routers on IP networks to establish multicast group memberships.
The two least-significant-bits of the second nibble of the first octet of the hexadecimal representation ( i. e., the two least significant bits of the first octet ) of the OUI are reserved as flag bits for some protocols ( e. g., ' M ' bit and ' X ' bit ), flags to indicate whether the address is part of an individual ( unicast ) or group ( multicast ) address block ( e. g., Individual / Group / G bit or Unicast / Multicast / M bit ), flags to indicate whether an address is universally or locally administered ( e. g., Universal / Local / L bit ), etc., and should not contain the values 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, a, b, d, e, or f, unless these values reflect the true meaning of these flag bits – if the organization that owns the OUI does set one of these bits when creating an identifier, then the value of the second nibble of the first octet changes accordingly in representations of the OUI ( e. g., if the hexadecimal value of the second nibble of the first octet is ' C ' and the least-significant-bit is set, then the value becomes ' D ').
The handshake also yields the GTK ( Group Temporal Key ), used to decrypt multicast and broadcast traffic.
* In order to join a multicast group, G, a host conveys its membership information through the Internet Group Management Protocol ( IGMP ).
* The CW Plus-a station group made up primarily of cable-only outlets that formerly served as affiliates of The WB 100 + Station Group and digital multicast channels
* Bibliography on overlay multicast and application layer multicast for the IRTF Scalable Adaptive Multicast Research Group
Each host ( and in fact each application on the host ) that wants to be a receiving member of a multicast group ( i. e. receive data corresponding to a particular multicast address ) must use the Internet Group Management Protocol ( IGMP ) to join.

Group and CAST
The reformation in November 1989 followed the Canadian government's decision to end the Canadian Air-Sea Transportable Brigade Group ( CAST ) commitment to reinforce Northern Norway.
The CAST rapid-reinforcement commitment had been encountering problems, most graphically demonstrated during Exercise Brave Lion in 1986, which prompted Canada to start formal consultations with NATO about consolidating the CAST Brigade and 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, based in southern Germany.
The hole thus created by the removal of the CAST Brigade Group was filled, to a degree, by the creation of a NATO Composite Force ( NCF ) to which Canada promised a battalion group.

anycast and multicast
IPv6 addresses are classified by three types of networking methodologies: unicast addresses identify each network interface, anycast addresses identify a group of interfaces, usually at different locations of which the nearest one is automatically selected, and multicast addresses are used to deliver one packet to many interfaces.
DHTs form an infrastructure that can be used to build more complex services, such as anycast, cooperative Web caching, distributed file systems, domain name services, instant messaging, multicast, and also peer-to-peer file sharing and content distribution systems.
* Anycast: Like broadcast and multicast, anycast is a one-to-many routing topology.
