Kenyanthropus platyops is a 3. 5 to 3. 2 million year old ( Pliocene ) hominin fossil that was discovered in Lake Turkana, Kenya in 1999 by Justus Erus, who was part of Meave Leakey's team .< ref >

Recently, an entirely new species has been discovered, called Kenyanthropus platyops, however the cranium KNM WT 40000 has a much distorted matrix making it hard to distinguish ( however a flat face is present ).

More recently, Meave Leakey discovered a 3, 500, 000-year-old skull there, named Kenyanthropus platyops, which means " The Flat-Faced Man of Kenya ".

She named the find Kenyanthropus platyops, or flat-faced man of Kenya.
