Lozang and Gyatso
Lobsang Yeshe, recognised as the fifth Panchen Lama by the fifth Dalai Lama Lozang Gyatso, was a member of the Dru family, an important family of the Bon religion.
Under Lozang Gyatso Bon became respected both philosophically and politically.
From the period of Lozang Gyatso, 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century, the Dalai Lamas held political control over central Tibet.
Although Lozang Gyatso, the 5th Dalai Lama, had died in 1682, the Regent Desi Sangye Gyatso ( Sangs-rgyas rgya-mtsho ) kept his death a secret-partly to continue the stable administration, and partly to gain time for the completion of the Potala.
Sonam Rapten, the Regent during the youth of Lozang Gyatso, the 5th Dalai Lama, sought the help of Gushri Khan to end persecution of the Gelugpa school, and unify Tibet.
It took three years for Gushri Khan to install Lozang Gyatso as the head of a unified Tibet.
He received novice vows when he was 8 ( 9 by Western reckoning ) in Lhasa from Lozang Gyatso, the Great Fifth Dalai Lama ( 1617 – 1682 ), when he was given the name of Lobsang Yeshe.
However, the most significant face of development occurred during the third Purchok incarnation Lozang Tsültrim Jampa Gyatso ( Phur lcog sku phreng gsum pa blo bzang tshul khrims byams pa rgya mtsho ) who was teacher of the 13th and 14th Dalai Lamas.
