The Lake Constance trout ( Salmo trutta ) was almost extinct in the 1980s due to pollution, but thanks to protective measures has made a significant return.
Partly this is due to the salmon ( Salmo trutta ) and the grayling ( Thymallus thymallus ) that occur natural in the rivulet, but have had hard times due to dams.
The lake is noted for stocks of brown trout ( Salmo trutta ) and rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ), introduced from Europe and California respectively in the late nineteenth century.
