The Seven Years ' War, which erupted in 1754 across three continents, eventually arrived in the Spanish Caribbean.

Juan Meléndez Valdés ( 11 March 1754 – 24 May 1817 ) was a Spanish neoclassical poet.

He went to Spain in 1751 to learn Spanish, and then embarked with other scientists for South America in February 1754.

In 1754 he offended her by opposing an exchange of Spanish and Portuguese colonial possessions in America which she favored.

Tainted with the scandal surrounding the Spanish Ship case, Wolcott was defeated for re-election in 1754.
