In 1867, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and second son of Queen Victoria, visited the islands.

She was baptised in the Chapel Royal of Kensington Palace on 27 July 1867 by Charles Thomas Longley, Archbishop of Canterbury, and her three godparents were Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales ( later King Edward VII and May's father-in-law ), and Princess Augusta, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The United States and the Kingdom of Madagascar concluded a commercial convention in 1867 after which Queen Rasoherina and Prime Minister Rainilaiarivoy exchanged gifts with president Andrew Johnson.

After the Canadian colonies of France were, via war and treaties, ceded to the British Crown, and the population was greatly expanded by those loyal to George III fleeing north from persecution during and following the American Revolution, British North America was in 1867 confederated by Queen Victoria to form Canada as a kingdom in its own right.

The island is named after Queen Victoria, the Canadian sovereign from 1867 to 1901.

Queen Victoria granted royal assent to the British North America Act on March 29, 1867

The Act was presented to Queen Victoria on February 11, 1867.

Confederation was accomplished when the Queen gave royal assent to the British North America Act ( BNA Act ) on March 29, 1867, followed by a royal proclamation stating: " We do ordain, declare, and command that on and after the First day of July, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-seven, the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, shall form and be One Dominion, under the name of Canada.

Queen City was laid out in May, 1867 by Doctor George W. Wilson and consisted of a town square surrounded by fifteen other blocks.

Once the remaining funds had been raised, in April 1867 Queen Victoria signed the Royal Charter of the Corporation of the Hall of Arts and Sciences which was to operate the Hall and on 20 May, laid the foundation stone.

The loyalty of the Irish Constabulary during the outbreak was rewarded by Queen Victoria who granted the force the prefix ' Royal ' in 1867 and the right to use the insignia of the Most Illustrious Order of St Patrick in their motif.
