Ku Klux Klan activities at Stone Mountain are deep-rooted, although the original conception of the memorial pre-dates the 1915 revival of the Klan.

On November 25, 1915, a group of robed and hooded men met at Stone Mountain to create a new incarnation of the Klan.

Stone Mountain was the setting for the 1915 revival of the Ku Klux Klan.

Once Italy entered the war in 1915, Balbo joined the Italian Royal Army ( Regio Esercito ) as an officer candidate and served in the Alpini ( Mountain ) Battalion " Val Fella " before volunteering for flying training on October 16th 1917.

The first instance of a cross being burned in the United States was when the Knights of Mary Phagan, the group that had lynched Leo Frank, burned a large cross atop Stone Mountain, outside of Atlanta on Oct. 16, 1915.

There was an interchange at Jackman with Jackman Lumber Company's Bald Mountain Railroad from 1915 to 1926, and with the Ray Lumber Company ( later Indian Lake Lumber Company ) railroad at Ray Siding near Caribou Stream in Bowerbank Township from 1912 to 1929.

The lynch mob called themselves the Knights of Mary Phagan, and on October 16, 1915 they climbed Stone Mountain and burned a giant cross that was visible throughout the city.

Fifteen of them went to the Stone Mountain with Simmons on Thanksgiving Night of 1915 to burn a cross and inaugurate the new Klan.

In 1915, the General Assembly decreed “ that the property of the Mountain Retreat Association be used for a Normal School and that the establishment of the school be referred to the Synods .”
