Dangerous Liaisons is a 1988 drama film based upon Christopher Hampton's play, Les liaisons dangereuses, which in turn was a theatrical adaptation of the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.

2012 found Weaving re-focusing on his theatrical career, with a well-received return to the Sydney Theatre Company to star in a new adaptation of Christopher Hampton's play Les Liaisons Dangereuses in March.

Among its most expensive flops were Great Balls of Fire !, starring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis and Winona Ryder as his teenage bride ; She-Devil, a domestic horror comedy featuring Meryl Streep and Roseanne Arnold ; and Valmont, a remake of Les Liaisons dangereuses, an eighteenth-century novel and twentieth-century play that already had been adapted and released as Dangerous Liaisons just a few months earlier.

He is best known for his play based on the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses and the film version Dangerous Liaisons ( 1988 ) and also more recently for writing the nominated screenplay for the film adaptation of Ian McEwan's Atonement.

Hampton won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1988 for the screen adaptation of his play Dangerous Liaisons.

In September she created the role of the Marquise de Merteuil in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, the play by Christopher Hampton after the French novel by Choderlos de Laclos.

She was however replaced by Glenn Close for Dangerous Liaisons — Stephen Frears's film of the play ; similarly John Malkovitch was selected for the role of Valmont instead of Duncan's co-star Alan Rickman.

Dangerous Liaisons was the first English-language film adaptation of Laclos's novel, and was based on Christopher Hampton's Olivier Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated theatrical adaptation for the Royal Shakespeare Company, directed by Howard Davies and featuring Lindsay Duncan, Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson.

His next film Dangerous Liaisons was a Chinese adaptation of the French literature classic set in 1930s Shanghai, directed by Hur Jin-ho and co-starring Zhang Ziyi and Cecilia Cheung.

Valmont is a 1989 drama film directed by Miloš Forman, based on the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses ( 1782 ) by Choderlos de Laclos.

At Demme's personal recommendation, Pfeiffer joined the cast of Stephen Frears's Dangerous Liaisons ( 1988 ) alongside Glenn Close and John Malkovich, playing the virtuous victim of seduction, Madame Marie de Tourvel.

In May 2002, Malkovich had been asked who – as the star of Les Liaisons Dangereuses – he would like to fight a duel with.
