The front line was mostly the same as the one occupied by the 1st Canadian Division in April 1915.

Three rainless days from 3 – 5 November eased preparation for the next stage, which began on the morning of 6 November with the 1st and 2nd Canadian Divisions.

The report of 1st Canadian Division commander Arthur Currie highlighted the lessons he believed the Canadian Corps could learn from the experiences of the French.

The 1st Canadian Division was responsible for the broad southern sector of the corps advance and expected to make the greatest advance in terms of distance.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions reported reaching and capturing their first objective, the Black Line, by 6: 25 am.

Shortly before 1: 00 pm, the advance recommenced with both the 1st and 2nd Canadian Divisions reporting their final objective.

The Canadian 1st and 2nd Divisions were nonetheless able to secure the Brown Line by approximately 2: 00 pm.

The Allied ground advance into Germany reached Bonn on 7 March 1945, and the US 1st Infantry Division captured the city during the battle of 8 – 9 March 1945.

Between 1992 and 2008, the 1st, 2nd and 16th Jungle Infantry Brigades, the 3rd Infantry Battalion, the 19th Logistics Battalion, and the 22nd Army Police Platoon were transferred by the Army from the states of Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul to the Amazon region in accordance with the friendship policy with Argentina.

The British Ministry of Defence and Clarence House made a joint announcement on 22 February 2007 that Prince Harry would be deployed with his regiment to the front line in Iraq, to serve as part of the 1st Mechanised Brigade of the 3rd Mechanised Divisiona move supported by Harry, who had stated that he would leave the army if he was told to remain in safety while his regiment went to war ; he said: " There's no way I'm going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country.

In World War II after initial deployment to France as part of the BEF, the regiment lost two battalions at the Defence of Calais ( 2nd Bn KRRC and 1st Bn the Queen Victoria's Rifles ( TA )) where a Green Jacket Brigade held up the German advance to enable the evacuation of the allied armies at Dunkirk.

Redeployed to northern Africa the unit began to see success, continuing with actions in Italy, Austria, Germany and in the Battle of Greece and Crete ( where its 9th Battalion, The Rangers ( TA ), served with 1st Armoured Brigade Group ).

The 1st Battalion served in the 4th Armoured Brigade that failed to link up with the 1st Parachute Division at the Battle of Arnhem.
