The first assigned U. S. Army Air Corps units were the 1st Bomb Wing, 41st Bomb Group, and 31st Air Base Group, activating on 30 April 1941.

The first mission was flown from Udorn Royal Thai Air Base by three C-130 A Model aircraft from the 41st Tactical Airlift Squadron, Naha AB, Okinawa, Japan.

With the departure of the 8th TFW, the 348th Combat Support Group became the host unit at Itazuke, with the Pacific Air Forces 41st Air Division becoming the operational USAF unit at the base.

The 41st is the Air Force's first active-duty combat-ready C-130J squadron.

The unit designator of MAC, 41st ARRW ( Air Rescue and Recovery Wing ), Det 9 was also maintained from February 1969 through June 1970.

In 1970 Chief McCoy transferred to the 41st Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Wing, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, as noncommissioned officer in charge of operations training.

:- First loss was RB-66B 53-0452 ( Det 1, 41st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, 6250th Combat Support Group ) which crashed 22 – 23 October 1965 west of Pleiku, SVN killing the crew.

Liuzhou is the headquarters of the 41st Group Army of the People's Liberation Army, one of the two group armies that comprise the Guangzhou Military Region responsible for the defense of China's southern coast and its border with Vietnam.

The 19th Operations Group is composed of four flying squadrons — the 41st, 50th, 53rd and 61st Airlift Squadrons.
