In 1971, Knuth was the recipient of the first ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award.

Shortly before his death in 2002, he received the ACM PODC Influential Paper Award in distributed computing for his work on self-stabilization of program computation.

The following year, the ACM ( Association for Computing Machinery ) PODC Influential Paper Award in distributed computing was renamed the Dijkstra Prize in his honour.

He received the ACM Turing Award for the development of these languages and in 1994 he was inducted as a Fellow of the ACM.
