In internal Church affairs, Benedict XV reiterated Pius X's condemnation of " modernist " scholars and the errors in modern philosophical systems in his first encyclical Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum, and declined to readmit to full communion scholars who had been excommunicated during the previous pontificate.

Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum is an encyclical of Benedict XV given at St. Peter's, Rome, on the Feast of All Saints on 1 November 1914, in the first year of his Pontificate.

He praised him as a Marian Pope who promoted the devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes, for his encyclicals Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum, Humani Generis Redemptionem, Quod Iam Diu, and Spiritus Paraclitus, and, for the codification of Canon Law, which under della Chiesa and Pietro Gasparri, he as Eugenio Pacelli had the opportunity to participate in.

Pope Benedict XV ( 1914 – 1922 ), Encyclical Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum: " Such is the nature of the Catholic faith that it does not admit of more or less, but must be held as a whole, or as a whole rejected: This is the Catholic faith, which unless a man believe faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.

In his encyclical Ad Apostolorum Principis of 29 July 1958, Pope Pius XII deplored the attitude and activities of the Association and declared the bishops who participated in consecrating new bishops selected by the Association to be excommunicated.

The Holy See reacted with several encyclicals and apostolic letters, including Cupimus Imprimis, Ad Apostolorum Principis, and Ad Sinarum Gentem.

The pope issued the Encyclical Quia vir reprobus, warning the faithful against Michael ; and the latter answered in his Ad perpetuam rei memoriam innotescat quod ego, Fr.

The original saying by Saint Cyprian of Carthage ( 3rd century AD ) is found his Letter LXXII, Ad Jubajanum de haereticis baptizandis, and in Latin reads: " Salus extra ecclesiam non est ".

In 1965 Pope Paul VI decreed in his motu proprio Ad Purpuratorum Patrum that patriarchs of the Eastern Catholic Churches who were named cardinals would also be part of the episcopal order, ranked after the six cardinal bishops of the suburbicarian sees ( who had been relieved of direct responsibilities for those sees by Pope John XXIII three years earlier ).

In his Papal Bull Ad extirpanda of 1252, Pope Innocent IV authorised the Dominicans ' use of torture under prescribed circumstances.

In 1184, Pope Lucius III decreed Ad abolendam that all " counts, barons, rectors, consuls of cities and other places " who did not join in the struggle against heresy when called upon to do so would be excommunicated and their territories placed under interdict – and declared that these provisions joined the apostolic authority of the church with the sanction of imperial power.

The phrase in its current form is found in Pope John XXIII's encyclical Ad Petri Cathedram.

The Catholic teaching on this subject is expressed in the papal encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, issued by Pope Pius XII.

Following the publication of the papal bull Ad fructus uberes by Pope Martin IV in 1281, Henry supported the secular clergy against the Mendicant Orders over the question of the ' reiteration of confession ' ( the obligation to confess to their parish priest, at least once a year, sins already confessed to a friar ).

Ad extirpanda ( named for its Latin incipit ) was a papal bull, promulgated on Wednesday, May 15, 1252, by Pope Innocent IV, which explicitly authorized ( and defined the appropriate circumstances for ) the use of torture by the Inquisition for eliciting confessions from heretics.

In 1997 the Archdiocese of Vaduz was erected by Pope John Paul II in the apostolic constitution Ad satius consulendum.

This echoed the sentiments of Pope Saint Pius X who in Ad Diem Illum stated: " there is no more direct road than by Mary for uniting all mankind in Christ.

In 1904 at the 50th anniversary of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception, Saint Pope Pius X with the encyclical Ad diem illum encouraged the entire Church to honor the Virgin Mary.

When Pope John Paul II issued his Apostolic letter Ad Tuendam Fidem in 1998 on church discipline, dissenters claimed it was a second anti-modernist oath.

Pius was particularly devoted to Mary ; his encyclical Ad Diem Illum expresses his desire through Mary to renew all things in Christ, which he had defined as his motto in his first encyclical.

The bulk of the letters consist of correspondence with Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, in which the character of Fronto's pupils appears in a very favourable light, especially in the affection they both seem to have retained for their old master There are also letters to friends, chiefly letters of recommendation, but including one ( Ad amicos 1.

In numerous additional messages, and in his encyclicals Fulgens Corona ( 1953 ), and Ad Caeli Reginam ( 1954 ), Pius XII encouraged the veneration of the Virgin in Fatima.

On 7 February 1862 Pius IX issued the papal constitution entitled Ad Universalis Ecclesiae, dealing with the conditions for admission to religious orders of men in which solemn vows are prescribed.

Pius IV subsequently ordered the Council to meet again in the carefully worded Ad ecclesiae regimen of November 29, 1560 ; the Council was eventually opened on January 18, 1562.

The lengthened and revised pastoral constitution on the Church in the modern world, Gaudium et Spes, was followed by decrees on missionary activity, Ad Gentes and the ministry and life of priests, Presbyterorum Ordinis.

Among apologetic writings was the Ad quaestiones magorum ( 429-436 ), now lost, in which he justified the Old Testament sacrifices as alternatives in opposition to the Egyptian idolatry, and exposed the fables of the Magi who worshiped the elements ( Church History v. 38 ).

Ad Gentes is the Second Vatican Council's Decree on the Missionary Activity of the Church.

Indignant at these proceedings, John XXII, in the Bull " Ad conditorem canonum " ( 8 December 1322 ), declared that the Roman Church renounced all its claims to the movable and immovable properties of the Franciscan Order and therewith returned them ; thus the pope revoked the Bull " Exiit " of Nicholas III and did away with the poverty which formed the basis of the Franciscan Order.

For instance the Catholic Church in Ad Gentes states that " The Church strictly forbids forcing anyone to embrace the Faith, or alluring or enticing people by worrisome wiles.

:" Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him (), the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men " ( Second Vatican Council, Ad Gentes, 1 ).

The anonymous work Ad Novatianum ( XIII ) states that ", while he was in the Church of Christ, considered his neighbours ' sins to be his own, eased his brothers ' burdens, as exhorted by the Apostle, and fortified with consolation those whose faith was shaken ".
