Leo, who was of non-noble birth, had risen in the hierarchy of Rome and was elected Pope only one day after the burial of his predecessor, Pope Adrian I, who had worked for good relations between Rome and the Frankish Empire under Charlemagne.

The following year, Pope Leo X ( 1513 – 21 ) made Adrian a cardinal, naming him Cardinal Priest of the Basilica of Saints John and Paul.

In a court run by a bishop and a representative of the emperor, and in the presence of Gregory, Ingoald, the Abbot of Farfa, claimed that the Frankish emperors had granted them the lands, and that Popes Adrian I and Leo III had taken possession of the land illegally.

At a young age he was raised at the Lateran Palace during the pontificate of Pope Adrian I, and it was under Stephen's predecessor Pope Leo III that he was first ordained a Subdeacon before he was subsequently made a Deacon.

Among the musicians who passed through the Five Pennies were clarinetist Pee Wee Russell, violinist Joe Venuti, bass sax player Adrian Rollini, tuba and bass player Joe Tarto, trombonist-arranger Glenn Miller, and extra trumpet players such as Leo McConville and Charlie Teagarden.

When Leo X died in 1521, Carpentras fled Rome for Avignon ; the new pope Adrian VI was uninterested in music, if not actively hostile, and many musicians gave him a " walking ovation.

Since very little is actually known about his life, the book fills in the historical episodes, placing Leo in the company of many of the key historical figures of his time, including three popes, ( Leo X, Adrian VI, and Pope Clement VII ), two Ottoman emperors ( Selim I and Suleiman the Magnificent ), with appearances by Boabdil ( the last Moorish king of Granada ), Askia Mohammad I of the Songhai Empire, Ferdinand of Spain, and Francis I of France, as well as the artist Raphael and other key political and cultural figures of the period.

Zeitblom begins to perceive the demonic, as Adrian develops other friendships, first with the translator Rüdiger Schildknapp (' Shield-bearer ') ( a loyal friend ), and then after his move to Munich with the handsome young violinist Rudi Schwerdtfeger (' Sword-polisher ', i. e. swordsmith ), Frau Rodde and her doomed daughters Clarissa and Ines, Dr. Kranich (' crane ') the numismatist, Leo Zink and Baptist Spengler ( two artists ).

But for his passionate hatred of France, he would have been elected the successor of Leo X ; however, Pope Adrian VI called him to Rome as administrator of the States of the Church.

Adrian Malcolm Conan Doyle ( 19 November 1910-3 June 1970 ) was the youngest son of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his second wife Jean, Lady Conan Doyle.

Adrian Conan Doyle has been depicted as a race-car driver, big-game hunter, explorer, and writer.

Adrian Doyle produced additional Sherlock Holmes stories, some with the assistance of John Dickson Carr.

On 12 September 1942, the Associated Press announced that an authentic, unpublished Sherlock Holmes story had been found by Adrian Conan Doyle.

Adrian Conan Doyle refused to publish it.

Sherlockian Vincent Starrett doubted that the story was written by the elder Doyle and suggested that Adrian was the author.

The memoir emphasised his paranormal interests but was not what readers wanted, so after their mother's death Adrian and Denis grudgingly allowed Hesketh Pearson to write Conan Doyle: His Life and Art ( Methuen, 1943 ).

Adrian threatened criminal proceedings against Pearson's " fakeography ", and wrote an article in protest, and later a book The True Conan Doyle ( John Murray, 1945 ).
