Ahilya Fort is now heritage hotel, founded by Prince Richard Holkar, a descendant of both Ahilya Bai Holkar and the last Maharajah of Indore.

The present day temple was rebuilt by Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, the ruler of Indore, in the 18th century.

For a time, Bai withdrew from the military school at the request of his family and studied at the civilian Guangxi Schools of Law and Political Science.
