Since its disappearance from the Biblical narrative, there have been a number of claims of having discovered or of having possession of the Ark, and several possible places have been suggested for its location.

According to the Biblical narrative, the Deluge covered the whole world, killing every surface-dwelling creature except Noah, his wife, his sons and their wives, sea creatures, and the animals taken aboard Noah's Ark.

In the second battle, the Israelites were again defeated, and the Philistines captured the Ark ( 1 Sam.

The affliction of boils was also visited upon the people of Gath and of Ekron, whither the Ark was successively removed ( 1 Sam.

The Bethshemites sent to Kirjath-jearim, or Baal-Judah, to have the Ark removed ( 1 Sam.

In 1 Chronicles 13: 3 it is stated that the people were not accustomed to consult the Ark in the days of Saul.

David, in fear, carried the Ark aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite, instead of carrying it on to Zion, and there it stayed three months ( 2 Samuel 6: 1-11 ; 1 Chronicles 13: 1-13 ).

The Levites were appointed to minister before the Ark ( 1 Chron.

When Abiathar was dismissed from the priesthood by King Solomon for having taken part in Adonijah's conspiracy against David, his life was spared because he had formerly borne the Ark ( 1 Kings 2: 26 ).

Solomon worshipped before the Ark after his dream in which God promised him wisdom ( 1 Kings 3: 15 ).

The Ark is first mentioned in the Book of Exodus, and then numerous times in Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, I Samuel, II Samuel, I Kings, I Chronicles, II Chronicles, Psalms and Jeremiah.

However, no mention is made of it during the years that the Ark of the Covenant was moved in the times of Samuel and Saul.

In the Qur ' anic account, Samuel prophesies to the children of Israel, telling them that the sign of Saul's kingship will be that the Ark of the Covenant will come back to the Israelites:

For example, the Hebrew prophet Samuel, would " lie down and sleep in the temple at Shiloh before the Ark and receive the word of the Lord.

A contrast can be found in Ichabod, so named as a result of the Ark of the Covenant being captured by the Philistines: " The glory is departed from Israel " ( 1 Samuel 4: 22 KJV ).

It was there that David, 2nd King of Israel, established the capital of his kingdom of Israel, and upon which citadel it was that his son Solomon built the Temple, in which he placed the Ark of the Covenant, which was the dwelling place of God ( II Samuel 7: 6 ).

According to Talmudic sources, the tent sanctuary remained at Shiloh for 369 years until the Ark of the Covenant was taken into the battle camp ( 1 Samuel 4: 3 – 5 ) at Eben-Ezer and captured by the Philistines at Aphek ( probably Antipatris ).

It is mentioned as the place the Ark of the Covenant was moved after being in Beth-shemesh ( 1 Samuel 6: 21-7: 2 ).

Some years later, when Samuel had become an adult, the Philistines attacked Eben-Ezer, eventually capturing the Ark of the Covenant from the Israelites and killed Eli's sons, who accompanied the Ark to battle as priests.

In an elaborate procession, which has often reminded literate onlookers of the sixth chapter of 2 Samuel where King David leads the people dancing before the Ark, the tabot is carried around the church courtyard on the patronal feast day, and also on the great Feast of Timket ( known as Epiphany or Theophany in Europe ).

A later tradition asserts ( Hebrews 9: 4 ) that the rod was kept in the Ark of the Covenant.

After 4 million years, the volcano the Ark was wedged in, erupted in Earth year 1984, restarting its computer, Teletraan I.
