The BAe ATP ( Advanced Turbo Prop ) design evolved from the Avro 748 and examples continue in use on shorter, mainly domestic, scheduled air services.

These in turn replaced the Boeing 737 – 200 Adv and BAe ATP airliners British Airways had used on its internal German scheduled services from Berlin.

The fleet continued to grow with the acquisition of BAe Jetstream 31, Jetstream 41, and ATP aircraft, and in the late 1980s Loganair had a comprehensive schedule and charter network.

It was previously an all-freight operator and intended to operate charter services from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Mediterranean holiday destinations starting later in 2005 using BAe ATP aircraft.

In May 2006, Magic Bird the successor to Magic Blue Airlines finally started operations with a single BAe ATP freighter.

Between 1989 and 1990, the inter-island HS 748 aircraft were gradually replaced by BAe ATP, after the first aircraft ( named Santa Maria ) entered service in 1989.

In January 2006, Atlantic acquired the first of an order for 5 BAe ATP freighter aircraft.

In February 2007, Atlantic Airlines signed an agreement with BAE Systems Regional Aircraft to long-term lease a further 6 BAe ATP freighters bringing the total orders to 11.

Even this version had room for improvement, leading British Aerospace and the Italian firm Alenia to develop advanced versions of Sparrow with better performance and improved electronics as the BAe Skyflash and Alenia Aspide, respectively.
