While the Habsburgs were driven out, many of their minor nobles were allowed to keep their lands and offices, though over time they lost power to the Bernese government.

In the early 19th century the Meyer family of Aarau conquered in person the Jungfrau ( 1811 ) and by deputy the Finsteraarhorn ( 1812 ), besides opening several glacier passes, their energy being entirely confined to the Bernese Oberland.

1983 saw the Ex-Trem Normal release " Warum " and " Welcome to Switzerland ", which revolutionized Bernese rock by adding distinctive dialect trends.

It is the easternmost peak of a ridge crest that extends across the Mönch to the Jungfrau at 4, 158 m. The northern side of the mountain rises about 3, 000 m ( 9, 800 ft ) above Grindelwald and other inhabited valleys of the Bernese Oberland, and the southern side faces the deeply glaciated region of the Jungfrau-Aletsch, covered by some of the largest glaciers in the Alps.

The Aar rises in the great Aar Glaciers of the Bernese Alps, in the canton of Bern and west of the Grimsel Pass.

In March 1528 the citizens of Aarau allowed the introduction of Protestantism at the urging of the Bernese.
