Strictly speaking only Shabads from Guru Granth Sahib, Dasam Granth and the compositions of Bhai Gurdas and Bhai Nand Lal, can be performed within a gurdwara.

The Holy Volume was compiled by Guru Arjan ( AD 1563-1606 ) and the first copy was calligraphed by Bhai Gurdas at his dictation — this is all we learn from most of the sources.

Guru Arjan called Bhai Gurdas to his presence and expressed to him the wish that the compositions of the Gurus as well as those of some of the saints and sufis be collected.

Bhai Gurdas travelled to Goindwal to bring these Pothis but the owner refused to see him.

Guru Arjan, Hargobind, Bhai Gurdas and Bhai Buddha now bore the palanquin on their shoulders and marched towards Amritsar, led by musicians, with flutes and drums.

Here Guru Arjan and Bhai Gurdas started work on the sacred volume.

Guru Arjan selected hymns for inclusion into the book and Bhai Gurdas acted as his scribe.

Bhai Buddha and Bhai Gurdas brought him a copy of manuscript so far, and after choosing three random passages to be read, determined the report to be false.

In Sikh scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib, the term does not figure in the compositions of the Gurus, though it occurs therein, both as Vahiguru and Vahguru, in the hymns of Bhatt Gayand, the bard contemporary with Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru ( 1553-1606 ), and also in the Varan of Bhai Gurdas.

Bhai Gurdas at one place in his Varan ( I. 49 ) construes " vahiguru " as an acrostic using the first consonants of the names of four divine incarnations of the Hindu tradition appearing in four successive eons.

The earliest use of Vahiguru, in this form, is traceable to Varan by Bhai Gurdas and to Gayand ’ s hymns in the Guru Granth Sahib.

In both it may be said to have occurred contemporaneously, for while no date can be assigned to Bhai Gurdas ’ Varan, the work may be assumed to have appeared soon after the compilation of the Scripture in 1604, being so much alive with its spirit and phraseology.

Bhai Gurdas in his Varan refers to it variously as japu mantra ( invocation for repetition ), guru sabadu ( the Guru ’ s Word ), sachu mantra ( true mantra ) and gurmantra.

Bhai Gurdas Ji on page 20 of his Vaars says:

He quoted Bhai Gurdas to say, “ The Sikhs who are Yogis remain detached and wakeful in the world of attachments .” ( Var 29, Verse 15 )

Siddique ul-Islam ( Siddikul Islam ), known popularly as Bangla Bhai ( ব াং ল া ভ া ই " Bengali Brother ") ( 1970 – 30 March 2007 ), also known as Aziz ur-Rahman () Azizur Rôhman, was a Bangladeshi terrorist and the military commander of the Al Qaeda affiliated radical pseudo-Islamist organization Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh ( Awakened Muslim Masses of Bangladesh ), known in popular usage as the JMJB.

According to the New Nation, while the Cabinet Committee on law and order led by Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiya ordered the arrest of Bangla Bhai for taking what they said law in his own hands, the three ministers belonging to Rajshahi – Aminul Haq, Fazlur Rahman patal and Ruhul Kuddus Dulu – opposed the police action saying the JMJB were on a ‘ pro-people mission ’ freeing the northern region from the left-wing extremists.

* Bhai Amrik Singh who devoted much of his life to Sikh missionary activities.

Among the visitors was Bhai Banno, who had led a group of Sikhs from Mangat, in western Punjab.

Bibi Bhani later married Bhai Jetha who became the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das.

# In 1766, Kesar Singh Chibber mentioned history of Compilation of Dasam Granth by Bhai Mani Singh Khalsa on directions of Mata Sundri, as he was first who wrote history after death of Guru Gobind Singh.

The party was founded in 1995 by Kishan Patnaik, Bhai Vaidya and many grassroot level political organisations who believed in creating an alternative political culture.

The last one featured a fictional character of an idealistic gang leader named Baker Bhai, who was wrongly convicted and executed.

When the Mughals reached closer, he started a sham negotiation with Ram Singh, who had set up camp at Agiathuti, calling him a " Bhai Raja " ( brother prince ).

For example, Bhai Nand Lal ’ s Tankhahnama records these words of Gobind Singh: “ Hear ye Nand Lal, one who does not give dasvandh and, telling lies, misappropriates it, is not at all to be trusted .” The tradition has been kept alive by chosen Sikhs who to this day scrupulously fulfil this injunction.

On the Sikhs ' side, Baj Singh and Binod Singh ( two of the five Sikhs sent by Guru Gobind along with Banda to the Punjab ) headed the right and left flanks respectively while Banda commanded the centre facing Wazir Khan's army. Bhai Dharam Singh And Bhai Karam Singh Rupe ke ( Sons of Bhai Roop Chand ( Singh ) were also jathedars of Banda bahadur who fought with others ( Ref.

In the late 17th century, Guru Gobind Singh Ji ( the tenth guru in Sikhism ), was in war with the Moghul rulers to protect the people of different faiths, when a fellow Sikh, Bhai Kanhaiya, attended the troops of the enemy.

Some of the enemy began to fight again and some Sikh warriors were annoyed by Bhai Kanhaiya as he was helping their enemy.

" I was giving water to the wounded because I saw your face in all of them ," replied Bhai Kanhaiya.

It was under the tutelage of the Guru that Bhai Kanhaiya subsequently founded a volunteer corps for altruism.

The Rabaab was first used by Bhai Mardana as he accompanied Guru Nanak Dev Ji on his journeys.

In 1704, at Damdama Sahib during a one-year respite from the heavy fighting with Aurengzeb the Khalsa was engaged in at the time, Guru Gobind Singh and Bhai Mani Singh added the religious compositions of Guru Tegh Bahadur to the Guru Granth Sahib to create a definitive version.

The Guru was very much pleased with his sincere devotion and asked, “ Bhai Gonda, go to Kabul, and instruct the Sikhs there in the worship of the true Name, and preach the Sikh faith.

Although Kabul was a foreign country and there was danger from Muslim bigotry in living there, Bhai Gonda cheerfully accepted the task given to him.

One day, while Bhai Gonda was repeating the Japji, he felt as though clinging to the Guru ’ s feet.

The Guru knew what was passing through Bhai Gonda ’ s mind, and sat firmly on his throne keeping his feet together.

I am therefore waiting until the conclusion of his meditation and obeisance .” Bhai Gonda did not awake from his trance before twilight, and it was only then that the Guru felt free to take his meal.

He was arrested, along with some of his followers, Bhai Dayala (), Bhai Mati Das () and Bhai Sati Das () by Nur Muhammad Khan of the Rupnagar police post at the village Malikhpur Rangharan, in Ghanaula Parganah, and sent to Sirhind the following day.
