* 1964 – The British TSR-2 aircraft XR219 makes its maiden flight from Boscombe Down in Wiltshire.

A crash at RAF Boscombe Down on 26 September 1994 appeared closely linked to " black " missions, according to a report in AirForces Monthly.

The nearest Met Office weather station to Salisbury is Boscombe Down, about 6 miles to the north of the city centre.

Originally the town developed around the water meadows next to several bends in the river, but in time has spread onto the valley hillsides and absorbed part of the military airfield at Boscombe Down.

Other finds in the parish point to large scale prehistoric structures and settlements in the whole area, including the numerous monuments around Stonehenge, the discovery of a Neolithic village in the neighbouring parish of Durrington by the Stonehenge Riverside Project, and continuing excavations at Boscombe Down where Wessex Archaeology found the Amesbury Archer and Boscombe Bowmen.

With the establishment of the military Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment at Boscombe Down in 1939, Amesbury began to expand.

As it sits on the A303 commuter belt, Amesbury has seen substantial developments on the land between the old town centre and Boscombe Down.

At the Boscombe Down junction of the A303 a new mixed business development known as Solstice Park has been built and plans have been submitted for a Regional Distribution Centre for a major retailer.

In June 1992, Husband was assigned to the Aircraft and Armament Evaluation Establishment at Boscombe Down, England, as an exchange test pilot with the Royal Air Force.

At Boscombe Down, Husband was the Tornado GR1 and GR4 Project Pilot and served as a test pilot in the Hawk, Hunter, Buccaneer, Jet Provost, Tucano, and Harvard.

Test pilot Roland Beamont finally made the first flight from the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment ( A & AEE ) at Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, on 27 September 1964.

The first supersonic test flight ( Flight 14 ) was achieved on the transfer from A & AEE, Boscombe Down, to BAC Warton.

The maiden flight of the second development batch aircraft, XR220, was due on the day of the announcement, but following an accident in conveying the airframe to Boscombe Down, coupled with the announcement of the project cancellation, it never happened.

The ATE SP is located close to other military facilities including the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at Porton Down ( much of whose work is secret ), Boscombe Down airfield and Middle Wallop Army Air Corps Base, where pilots train on the Westland Apache.

Count Lippe was dispatched to Shrublands to oversee Giuseppe Petacchi of the Italian Air Force, at the Boscombe Down Airfield, a bomber squadron base.

Two Chipmunk aircraft were evaluated by the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment ( A & AEE ) at RAF Boscombe Down.

A Most Secret Place: Boscombe Down 1939-45.

From 1945 to 1947 Żurakowski worked as a test pilot with " C " Squadron of the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment ( A & AEE ) at RAF Boscombe Down, testing naval aircraft for the Air Ministry.

While still at Boscombe Down, Żurakowski also flew, among over 30 different types, the Vampire, the de Havilland Hornet, and the Gloster Meteor never letting pass, " an opportunity to give the staff a display that included single engine aerobatics.

On 1 April 2009, the Heavy Aircraft Test & Evaluation Squadron at Boscombe Down ( Air Warfare Centre ) gained the 206 Squadron numberplate, as 206 ( Reserve ) Squadron.

Currently split between RAF Boscombe Down and RAF Brize Norton ' B Flt ' C130 specialists moved from RAF Lyneham in June 2011 to their new home at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to continue the Hercules Test and Evaluation process.

Later in 1939, the first Handley Page Halifax was assembled at Bicester, and on 25 October 1939 the type made its maiden flight from the airfield, flying to Boscombe Down ( the Halifax's entry gives an earlier date-24 September, date confirmation needed ).

This ambitious phase has been radiocarbon dated to between 2600 and 2400 BC, slightly earlier than the Stonehenge Archer, discovered in the outer ditch of the monument in 1978, and the two sets of burials, known as the Amesbury Archer and the Boscombe Bowmen, discovered to the west.

A teenage boy buried approximately 1550 BC was raised near the Mediterranean Sea ; a metal worker from 2300 BC dubbed the " Amesbury Archer " grew up near the alpine foothills of Germany ; and the " Boscombe Bowmen " probably arrived from Wales or Brittany, France.

The graves were discovered only a short distance from the Boscombe Bowmen who were excavated the following year.

The new club entered the Southern Football League, famous for being the league that Tottenham Hotspur played in when becoming the only non league team to win the FA Cup, once again playing alongside Plymouth and Exeter's reserve sides and also Boscombe ( later to become A. F. C.

Torquay went on to finish in sixth place that season and during the summer break had the audacity to apply for Football League status, but failed to gain a single vote, seeing Boscombe elected to the league instead.

This institution was closed in 1877 for lack of funds, and Paley removed to Boscombe, where he lived until his death.

In Dorset, west of Bournemouth are found Flaghead Chine, Branksome Chine, Alum Chine, Middle Chine and Durley Chine, and east towards Boscombe, Honeycombe Chine.

From 1996 until May 2008 Clarke was located at Boscombe Down lecturing Aircraft Structures, Systems and Theory of Flight at FES Training Centre.

Reference to Boscombe is included in Christopher Saxton's 1574 survey made of possible enemy landing places on the coast of Hampshire ; this mentions ... referring to the manufacture of copperas or ferrous sulphate which took place in the district, particularly in the last quarter of the 16th century.

The scheme was not implemented ; instead about of land was obtained by Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, on part of which he built a house for himself named Boscombe Towers, in 1868, Sir Henry became closely associated with the development of Boscombe Spa for a considerable number of years.

Within Bournemouth, it has been diverted around the Sovereign Centre of Boscombe along Centenary Way ; much of the former road is pedestrianised.
