Called " the most beautiful town site along the Northern Pacific Railroad between Brainerd and Fargo ", the townsite of Verndale was situated east of the Wing River, on the edge of a beautiful prairie which was sheltered on the north and west by groves of small pines.

The Trimble high school and middle school provide some local employment, as does a beer distributor ( Miller Brands ), Frog Ranch Salsa, and Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action Programs ( HAPCAP ).

Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action Program serves the community by providing jobs, HEAP and PIPP assistance, weatherization of homes, and many other programs and services.

There is public transportation via Yamhill Community Action Partnership with a bus to McMinnville.

One officer is part of the Community Action Team for Domestic Violence.

Social services are provided in part by the Northeast Kingdom Community Action, located here and in other Northeast Kingdom sites.
