* Platine War ( 1851 – 1852 ): The Brazilian Empire and its allies went to war against the dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas of the Argentine Confederation.

The Brazilian victory was crucial for the later success of the Triple Alliance ( Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina ) in the Paraguayan War.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, is an adaptation of pre – World War II judo developed by the brothers Carlos and Hélio Gracie, with a large focus on groundwork.

It is used to clear paths through the bush, and was used to fight against the Brazilian Empire in the Farrapos ' war ( War of Tatters ).

The country was slowly being repopulated by former Brazilian soldiers who had fought in the War of the Triple Alliance, and Paraguay's government encouraged European immigration.

The creation of a Brazilian animated character during the Second World War was part of a strategy called " Good Neighbor Policy " headed by the United States government to improve relations and gather support amongst its neighbor countries.

Also in 1972, Portugal participated in the Brazilian Independence Cup, a tournament that marked the 150th birthday since Brazil received its independence from Portugal.
