Runway 34 is ILS CAT II equipped.

With one runway ( with CAT II certification ) and an estimated 2 million passengers a year, Vilnius International Airport is base to Wizz Air and Small Planet airlines, focus city to Ryanair and is served by a number of European regular and low-cost airlines, offering direct and connecting flights to many destinations.

CAT II and III ILS approaches generally require complex high-intensity approach light systems, while medium-intensity systems are usually paired with CAT I ILS approaches.

* Category II ( CAT II ) – A precision instrument approach and landing with a decision height lower than above touchdown zone elevation but not lower than, and a runway visual range not less than ( ICAO and FAA ) or ( JAA ).

The aircraft and crew must be approved for CAT II operations, and a heads-up display in CAT II or III mode must be used to the decision height.

CAT II / III missed approach criteria applies.

Order 8400. 13D, which was released during 2009, also allows special authorization CAT II approaches to runways without ALSF-2 approach lights and / or touchdown zone / centerline lights, which has expanded the number of potential CAT II runways.

D, Aircraft size max: A300, ILS CAT II, Lighting: SAL System available

The implementation of Category II Instrument Landing System ( CAT II ILS ) on runway 27, to enhance the reliability of the Airport in low visibility conditions, has been completed and approved.

Runways equipped with an ILS at the airport are 6L, 24R, 24L and 18, while 6L also has capabilities for a CAT II and III ILS procedure.

Runway 09 is equipped with an ILS CAT II, which enables aircraft operations in low ceiling ( 30 meters ) and visibility ( 350 meters ).

Using surplus World War II aircraft such as the C-47 Dakota and the C-46 Commando, CAT airlifted supplies and food into war-ravaged China.

Runway 16 is equipped with an ILS CAT II, which enables aircraft operations in low ceiling ( 30 meters ) and visibility ( 350 meters ).

The expansion plans include lengthening one of the two V-configured runways ( 3, 000m and 3, 060m long ) to 3, 800m and upgrading the instrument landing system from the present CAT II to CAT III.
