* Capulin Volcano National Monument

Capulin Volcano National Monument is located seven miles ( 11 km ) south of Folsom.

In New Mexico there is also the Aztec Ruins National Monument, Bandelier National Monument, Capulin Volcano National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, El Malpais National Monument, El Morro National Monument, Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, Pecos National Historical Park, Petroglyph National Monument, and the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.

Capulin Volcano National Monument, located in northeastern New Mexico, was designated a U. S. National Monument on August 9, 1916.

Capulin Volcano National Monument is a well-preserved, relatively young ( 58, 000 to 62, 000 years old ), symmetrical cinder cone.

Capulin Volcano is one of the outstanding landmarks located in the northeast corner of New Mexico, where the rolling grasslands meet the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Capulin Volcano also offers visitors excellent opportunities for observing and understanding volcanic formation.

Public Law 87-635, 87th Congress, S. 2973, September 5, 1962, amended the proclamation to "… preserve the scenic and scientific integrity of Capulin Mountain National Monument …" because of the significance of Capulin Volcano.

On December 31, 1987, Congress changed the Monument's name from Capulin Mountain National Monument to Capulin Volcano National Monument by Public Law 100-225 ( 101 Stat.

On August 9, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson set Capulin aside as a U. S. National Monument by Presidential Proclamation No. 1340, to preserve "… a striking example of recent extinct volcanoes … which … is of great scientific and especially geologic interest …"

Rising to 8, 182 ( 2, 494 m ) feet above sea level, Capulin is the highest mountain near Folsom.

In Arizona there is the Agua Fria National Monument, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, Chiricahua National Monument, Ironwood Forest National Monument, Montezuma Castle National Monument, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Petrified Forest National Park, Pipe Spring National Monument, Saguaro National Park, Sonoran Desert National Monument, Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, Tonto National Monument, Tumacacori National Historical Park, Tuzigoot National Monument, Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, Walnut Canyon National Monument, and the Wupatki National Monument.

At Nueva San Salvador, the traveler will pass near the Volcano de San Salvador.

Much of Pouakai's large ringplain was obliterated by the Egmont Volcano, the hills near Eltham being the only remnant to the south.

A volcano may be designated a Decade Volcano if it exhibits more than one volcanic hazard ( people living near the Decade Volcanoes may experience tephra fall, pyroclastic flows, lava flows, lahars, volcanic edifice instability and lava dome collapse ); shows recent geological activity ; is located in a populated area ( eruptions at any of the Decade Volcanoes may threaten tens or hundreds of thousands of people, and therefore mitigating eruption hazards at these volcanoes is crucial ); is politically and physically accessible for study ; and there is local support for the work.

Historical eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Lake Taal.

Volcano Island, the location of Taal Volcano's historical eruptions and responsible for the lake's sulfuric content, lies near the center of the lake.

As of December 2007, the public was awaiting the presentation of new stadium, and in 2008 city government presented two potential stadiums, new Maksimir and Vulkan ( Volcano ) which is supposed to be built on the another location ( Kajzerica ) in Zagreb and old Maksimir should then be knocked down, the citizens were to choose which one they want on the referendum predicted to take place somewhere in the near future.

Volcanoes near the Pelly River, such as Volcano Mountain, may have once partly blocked or at least altered the Pelly River.

The Flagstaff District surrounds two United States National Monuments near Flagstaff, Walnut Canyon National Monument and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument the latter of which preserves the youngest cinder cone in the San Francisco Volcanic Field, Sunset Crater.

This type of eruption occurs most often at hotspot volcanoes such as Kīlauea, though it can occur near subduction zones ( e. g. Medicine Lake Volcano in California, United States ) and rift zones.
