Cheng Man-ch ' ing or Zheng Manqing ( 29 July 1902-26 March 1975 ) was born in Yongjia ( present-day Wenzhou ), Zhejiang Province ( his birthday was on the 28th year of the Guangxu emperor's reign, 6th month, 25th day, which corresponds to July 29, 1902 ).

In addition to his childhood instruction, Cheng Man-ch ' ing received formal Chinese medical training.

Cheng Man-ch ' ing wrote a complex prescription for his friend, who took the medicine and recovered fully.

As war was raging across China at that time, it took several years before Cheng Man-ch ' ing was able to present himself for study.

Cheng Man-ch ' ing is best known in the West for his t ' ai chi ch ' uan.

Among Yang Chengfu's students were famous masters such as Tung Ying-chieh ( Dong Yingjie, 董英杰 ; 1898 – 1961 ), Chen Weiming, Fu Zhongwen ( Fu Chung-wen, 1903 – 1994 ), Li Yaxuan ( 李雅轩 ; 1894 – 1976 ) and Cheng Man-ch ' ing.

Cheng Man-ch ' ing, perhaps the most famous outside of China, significantly shortened and simplified the traditional forms Yang taught him after his teacher's passing, reportedly to make them more accessible to larger numbers of students.

Although Cheng's modifications are considered controversial by most other schools and are not recognized by the Yang family, Cheng Man-ch ' ing is known as the first to teach T ' ai chi ch ' uan ( Taijiquan ) in the West.

The Cheng Man-ch ' ing and Chinese Sports Commission short forms are said to be derived from Yang family forms, but neither is recognized as Yang family t ' ai chi ch ' uan by current Yang family teachers.

In 1947 he resettled in Taiwan where he became a disciple of Cheng Man-ch ' ing.

Tchoung was also a pushing hands partner of Cheng Man-ch ' ing.

In 1683, following a naval engagement with Admiral Shi Lang, Koxinga's ( Cheng Ch ' eng Kung ) grandson Zheng Keshuang and ruler of Taiwan submitted to the Qing Dynasty ( then romanised as Ch ' ing Dynasty ).

Translations of his works include: " Master Cheng's New Method of T ' ai Chi Ch ' uan Self-Cultivation "; " Cheng Man Ch ' ing: Essays on Man and Culture "; " Cheng Man Ch ' ing: Master of Five Excellences ," and " T ' ai Chi Ch ' uan: A Simplified Method of Calisthenics for Health and Self-Defense.

Cheng was also one of the revolutionaries involved in the attempted assassination of military official and politician Yuan Shih-k ' ai, commonly reviled in Chinese history for taking advantage of both the Ch ' ing imperial court and the Republicans.

Cheng Yi followed this interpretation, elaborating on this perspective of Dao through teachings about yin-yang interactions, the cultivation and preservation of life ; and the axiom of a morally just universe.

Though King Wu died just a few years after the Battle of Muye, the Duke of Zhou assisted the young and inexperienced King Cheng in consolidating power for the Ji line: he managed a war against rebellious Zhou princes in the eastern lowlands ( allied with feudal rulers and Shang remnants ); formulated the Mandate of Heaven doctrine to counter Shang claims to a divine right of rule ; founded Chengzhou as an eastern capital ; and set up the fengjian " feudal " system designed to maintain Zhou authority as it expanded its rule over a larger amount of territory.

Sun Jian and Sun Ce's most senior officers, such as Zhou Yu, Zhang Zhao, Zhang Hong, and Cheng Pu remained loyal ; in fact it was mentioned in Romance of the Three Kingdoms that Sun Ce had at his deathbed reminded Sun Quan that " in internal matters, consult Zhang Zhao, in external matters, consult Zhou Yu.

Chiang Kai-shek and his staff such as Chen Cheng realized that he could not risk annihilation of their elite troops in a symbolic but hopeless defense of the capital ; therefore, in order to preserve these forces for future battles, most of them were withdrawn.

Qín Shǐ Huáng ( Wade-Giles: Chin Shih Huang ; Chinese: ; 259 BC – 210 BC ; personal name: Zhào Zhèng ( Wade-Giles: Chao Cheng ; ); name in classical Chinese: ( 趙正 ) was the king of the Chinese State of Qin from 246 BC to 221 BC, during the Warring States Period.

Though he tended not to advertise it, Cheng served as one of the painting teachers of Soong Mei-ling, Madame Chiang Kai-shek, whom he taught to paint lotuses ; and as personal physician to Chiang Kai-shek in Taiwan and perhaps earlier.

Other deployments along the frontline included Liu Yan ( 劉延 ) in Boma ( 白馬 ; near present-day Hua County, Henan ), Yu Jin in Yan Ford, Cheng Yu in Juancheng ( 鄄城 ; near present-day Juancheng County, Shandong ), and Xiahou Dun in Meng Ford ( 孟津 ; present-day Mengjin County, Henan ).

Other influences include Glen Cook's Black Company ; Sean Stewart's Resurrection Man, The Night Watch and Galveston ; Homer's Odyssey, the Bible, and Wu Cheng ' en's Journey to the West.

The genus Metasequoia was first described as a fossil from the Mesozoic Era by Shigeru Miki in 1941, but in 1943 a small stand of an unidentified tree was discovered in China in Modaoxi ( presently, Moudao, Lichuan County, Hubei ) by Zhan Wang ; due to World War II, these were not studied further until 1946 and only finally described as a new living species, M. glyptostroboides, in 1948 by Wan Chun Cheng and Hu Hsen Hsu.

The majority, perhaps seeing that Emperor Cheng was leaning toward Prince Xin, recommended him, citing the general rule of succession that when one lacked an heir, he should adopt a brother's child to be his own son and heir ; one official recommended Prince Xing under the rationale that he was closer in bloodline with the emperor.
