* 1979-Facing bankruptcy, Chrysler receives government loan guarantees upon the request of CEO Lee Iacocca to help revive the company

* 1979 – The Chrysler Corporation asks the United States government for USD $ 1. 5 billion to avoid bankruptcy.

In 1939, Chrysler was contracted by the US government to create a new engine for use in fighter aircraft.

While some have said that Congress lent Chrysler the money, the government only guaranteed the loans.

The crisis was prefigured by the near-bankruptcy of Chrysler in 1979 — it was rescued by government loans — and the actual bankruptcy of Delphi ( formerly part of GM ) in 2005.

The bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler in 2009 indicated a much smaller and leaner industry, as the government took effective ownership of the two.

They rescued many of the large financial corporations from bankruptcy – with the exception of Lehman Brothers, which went bankrupt – and took government control of insurance giant AIG, mortgage banks Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and both General Motors and Chrysler.

Despite the government assistance, the weight of problems bearing on Chrysler Europe resulted in its collapse in 1977, leading to the company's 1978 takeover by PSA Peugeot-Citroen.

Chrysler Europe was sold to Peugeot in 1978, due to mounting operating losses in Europe and the U. S. that required a U. S. government bailout.

The Horizon and its corporate twin the Omni appeared at a critical time, when Chrysler was desperately looking for government support to survive.

Chrysler management decided that the company should therefore also benefit from state aid, and pressed the government for it by threatening to close the UK operations.

Because of government restrictions on manufacturer source goods, Chrysler offered white steel " beauty rings " on its car wheels to give the appearance of wide white wall tires.

* 2008-General Motors Corporation and Chrysler LLC-though not technically a bailout, a bridge loan was given to the auto manufacturers by the U. S. government, this is referred to by most as a bailout

Fraser mobilized UAW members and heavily lobbied Congress in a move that proved critical to convincing the government to provide $ 1. 2 billion in federally guaranteed loans that enabled Chrysler to avoid bankruptcy.

* January 7 – U. S. President Jimmy Carter signs legislation approving $ 1. 5 billion in loan guarantees to bail out the Chrysler Corporation.

During that time, despite being a relatively junior member of Congress, he was responsible for legislation providing federal loan guarantees for Chrysler Corporation which saved the company from a likely bankruptcy.

On July 13, 1983, the loan was paid back in full and Chrysler began to flourish under the management of Iacocca.

They include: " In Florida ", about the 2000 election ; " Without DeLay ", a song about the former congressman ; " Bobbitt ", about John and Lorena Bobbitt ; " Little Bitty Gun ", which lampoons Nancy Reagan ; " I'm Changing My Name to Chrysler ", about the federal loan guarantee to Chrysler in 1979 ( which was rewritten in 2008 as " I Am Changing My Name to Fannie Mae " about the 700 billion dollar " bailout of the U. S. financial system "); " The Ballad of Spiro Agnew ", and " Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation " ( which became " George W. Told the Nation " in 2007 ).

In 2008, Paxton rewrote his song " I'm Changing My Name to Chrysler ", about the federal loan guarantee to Chrysler in 1979, as " I Am Changing My Name to Fannie Mae ", about the 700 billion dollar " bailout of the U. S. financial system ".

He is best remembered for helping to save Chrysler from bankruptcy in 1979 by heavily lobbying Congress for a financial loan.

He is best known for his role in negotiating a greater voice for the union in corporate governance with Chrysler during the company's 1979 bankruptcy crisis and subsequent government-sponsored loan.

This shape was based upon an oval, which was perhaps inspired by Ford's own logo, and while the previous Taurus used a flat, streamlined shape, this Taurus used a rounded shape similar to that of the Chrysler Concorde.

July 4, 1976, Max began his Statue of Liberty series leading to his efforts with Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca to help spearhead the restoration of the statue.
