From his knowledge of classical literature came several poems from this volume, including a poetic drama based on the murder of Agamemnon by Clytemnestra, and a cycle of seven poems, each for one of the Muses.

Clytemnestra and Argos
His wife Clytemnestra ( Helen's sister ) was having an affair with Aegisthus, son of Thyestes, Agamemnon's cousin who had conquered Argos before Agamemnon himself retook it.
Agamemnon tries to convince Clytemnestra to go back to Argos while he marries Iphigenia to Achilles.
In Greek mythology, Electra (, Ēlektra ) was the daughter of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra, and thus princess of Argos.

Cassandra, who has been driven partially mad due to a curse by which she can see the future but will never be believed when she warns others, is morbidly delighted by this news: she sees that when they arrive in Argos, her new master's embittered wife Clytemnestra will kill both her and her new master.
Another prominent example of anagnorisis in tragedy is in Aeschylus's " The Choephoroi " (" Libation Bearers ") when Electra recognizes her brother, Orestes, after he has returned to Argos from his exile, at the grave of their father, Agamemnon, who had been murdered at the hands of Clytemnestra, their mother.
The play recounts the story of Orestes and his sister Electra in their quest to avenge the death of their father Agamemnon, king of Argos, by killing their mother Clytemnestra and her husband Aegisthus, who had deposed and killed him.
Unlike in Aeschylus ’ The Libation Bearers, where revenge is one of the main themes throughout the play, Sartre ’ s Orestes does not kill Aegisthus and Clytemnestra for vengeance or because it was his destiny, instead it is for the sake of the people of Argos, so that they may be freed from their enslavement.
