Wingate, formerly known as Pleasant Hill, is a town in Coal Creek Township, Montgomery County, Indiana, United States.

Other mines in what is now Nanty Glo and their starting dates included Lincoln ( 1900 ); Springfield, owned by the Peale, Peacock and Kerr Company ( 1907 ); Emma Coal Company ( 1909 ); and Webster, later owned by the Pennsylvania Coal & Coke Company, Ivory Hill, and the Warren Colliery.

Coal could be seen ( and accessed ) on both the east side ( Turkey Hill ) and the west side ( Curry Hill ) of the creek.

In 1805, Hezekiah Roberts, Sr. obtained a patent for of land, called Lot 49, on the west side of Coal Creek, which he sold to William Currie ( who gave the place the name Curry Hill ).

Knapp also opened coal mines on Coal Run and ore mines on " Barney Hill ".

The National Coal Board eventually became Wakefield's largest employer with Manor Colliery on Cross Lane and Park Hill colliery at Eastmoor surviving until 1982.
