The area became rather deserted and was subsequently settled by Serbs, Vlachs, Croats and Germans and others.

Croatia and Slavonia became a part of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs composed out of all Southern Slavic territories of the now former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy with a transitional government headed in Zagreb.

After Srijem left Croatia and Slavonia and joined Serbia together with Vojvodina, which was shortly followed by a referendum to join Bosnia and Herzegovina to Serbia, the People's Council ( Narodno vijeće ) of the state, guided by what was by that time a half a century long tradition of pan-Slavism and without sanction of the Croatian sabor, joined the Kingdom of Serbia into the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

As the movement began to gain popularity, the Partisans gained strength from Croats, Bosniaks, Serbs, Slovenes, and Macedonians who believed in a unified, but federal, Yugoslav state.

The propagandists who want people to believe " neutral policies " equalized Serbs and Croats severely restricted free speech and did not protect citizens from ethnic attacks.

The constitution of 1963 balanced the power in the country between the Croats and the Serbs, and alleviated the fact that the Croats were again in a minority.

The civilian population fled the areas of armed conflict en masse: generally speaking, hundreds of thousands of Croats moved away from the Bosnian and Serbian border areas, while thousands of Serbs moved towards it.

Croatia is inhabited mostly by Croats ( 89. 6 %), while minorities include Serbs ( 4. 5 %), and 21 other ethnicities ( less than 1 % each ).

The first modern parties in the country developed in the middle of the 19th century, and their agenda and appeal changed, reflecting major social changes, such as the breakup of Austria-Hungary, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, dictatorship and social upheavals in the kingdom, World War II, the establishment of Communist rule and the breakup of the SFR Yugoslavia.

The first census was conducted in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1921.

This set off a chain of events that led to World War I. Princip was a Yugoslav nationalist associated with the movement Mlada Bosna ( Young Bosnia ) which predominantly consisted of Serbs, but also Bosniaks and Croats.

Unable to survive a predatory environment without a foreign protector, Albania became the object of tensions between Italy and the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, which both sought to dominate the country.

By that date, the following nations had deposited instruments of definitive adherence to the pact: Afghanistan, Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, China, Cuba, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Liberia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Romania, the Soviet Union, the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, Siam, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey.

Shortly before the end of World War I, representatives of the three peoples proclaimed a Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes under King Peter I.

The Karadjordjević family initially was a Serbian Royal House, then the Royal House of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and then the Royal House of Yugoslavia.

The largest groups of foreign nationals were Turks ( 43, 309 ), Albanians ( 30, 385 ), Croats ( 24, 866 ), Serbs ( 24, 439 ), Greeks ( 22, 486 ), Austrians ( 21, 411 ), and Italians ( 20, 847 ).

After the First World War, the Kingdom of Serbia joined the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

Later in the 20th century, after the break-up of the Soviet Union, leaders appealed to ancient ethnic feuds or tensions that ignited conflict between the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, as well Bosnians, Montenegrins and Macedonians, eventually breaking up the long collaboration of peoples and ethnic cleansing was carried out in the Balkans, resulting in the destruction of the formerly communist republic and produced the civil wars in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992 – 95, resulted in mass population displacements and segregation that radically altered what was once a highly diverse and intermixed ethnic makeup of the region.

Serbs started to settle in the town in larger number again after the First World War, when Senta became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ( later renamed to Yugoslavia ) in 1918.

" Hill said the negotiations with the Bosnians, Serbs and Croats were successful because all the parties " were all ready to settle.

The Slavs settle the area in the 6th century, the semi-mythological White Croats and White Serbs divided Dalmatia in two in the 7th century, the Croats ruling north of the Neretva river while the Serbs ruling the south.

In the 7th century A. D., seven tribes led by 5 brothers ( Kluk, Lobel, Muhlo, Kosjenic and Hrvat ) and 2 sisters ( Buga and Tuga ) migrated to Dalmatia ( the coastal part of today's Croatia ) as part of the migration of the Croats in the 7th century, being invited to settle on this vastly depopulated area by Roman ( Byzantine ) Emperor Heraclius ( 610 – 641 ) in order to establish a shield against Avars for his state.

Šufflay became a historian of the Balkans, convinced that the history of the Croats can be properly researched only from that perspective.

His conviction clashed with the prevailing opinion of Croatian historians that the Croats were representatives of the West as opposed to the Balkans.

Around 630, during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Heraclius, Serbs and Croats ( Slavic tribes ) led by their respective aristocracies entered the western Balkans from the north, which was approved by the emperor.

According to DAI a second migration of Slavs into the Balkans, of Serbs and Croats, occurred c. 610-640 A. D.

Ibrahim ibn Yaqub placed the people of " Saqalib " in the mountainous regions of Central Balkans, west of the Bulgarians and east from the " other Slavs " ( Croats ), thus in the Serb lands.

Vladimir Jovanović ( Serbian Cyrillic: Владимир Јовановић, also spelled in English as Vladimir Yovanovich ) ( 28 September 1833, Šabac, Serbia-3 March 1922, Belgrade, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ) was a Serbian Philosopher, political theorist, economist, politician, political writer and activist for the unification of all Serbian lands in the Balkans.

The Kingdom of Croatia (), also known as the Kingdom of the Croats (; ), was a medieval kingdom covering most of what is today Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Balkans.

The Croats were a Slavic tribe, coming into the Balkans from an area in and around today's Poland or western Ukraine.

Dominantly the club of Serbs, Slavija was by far the best club from Bosnia between the two World Wars, having played 11 top league seasons ( out of possible 16 ) in Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

It's like having the Bosnians, Croats, the Jews and Arabs all together in the same area.

In the last Yugoslav census in 1991, the Vukovar municipality, which included the town and surrounding villages, was recorded as having 84, 189 inhabitants, of whom 43. 8 per cent were Croats, 37. 5 per cent were Serbs and the remainder were members of other ethnic groups.

By March 2001, the municipality was recorded as having 31, 670 inhabitants – less than half the pre-war total – of whom 18, 199 ( 57. 46 %) were Croats and 10, 412 ( 32. 88 %) were Serbs.

There have been, for example, White, Red and Black Croats.

Italians have so been predominant in most urban settlements and in the coast with strong minorities of Slovenes or Croats, especially in Trieste / Trst district where Slovenes represented a third of the population by the end of World War I.

Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus claimed that Porga, duke of the Dalmatian Croats, who had been invited into Dalmatia by Heraclius, sent to Emperor Heraclius for Christian teachers.

The first miners requested and delivered from the Austrian Government are the Austrian Croats known to have been employes in the Ereğli Coal Mines.

Most defendants have been Serb politicians, soldiers and paramilitaries but Croats, Bosnians and ethnic Albanian Kosovo Liberation Army guerrillas have also been tried.

The community, however, has been divided around the issue of the name: in the 1991 census, in terms of ethnicity, around 21, 434 inhabitants of Vojvodina declared themselves Bunjevci ( 17, 527 in Subotica alone – or 11. 7 %) whereas some 74, 808 declared themselves Croats ; in 2002, there were 19, 766 Bunjevci ( 16, 254 in Subotica – or 10. 95 %) and around 56, 546 Croats in Vojvodina.

Claims that medieval Bosnians declared themselves Croats or Serbs have been disputed: evidence shows many instances of them calling themselves Bosnians ( Bošnjani ); however, some historians believe that these indicate regional rather than ethnic identity.

Croats and Slovenes have traditionally been Catholic, Serbs and Macedonians Eastern Orthodox, and Bosniaks and most Albanians Muslim.

The Gusle has been used by the Croats in Herzegovina, the South Croatian hinterland, Lika, as well as in Bosnia and Western Bosnia as an accompaniment for epic poetry for hundreds of years.

Syrmia has been a part of the Roman Empire, the Hun Empire, the Ostrogothic Kingdom, the Gepid Kingdom, the Lombard state, the Byzantine Empire, the Avar Khaganate, the Frankish Empire, the Bulgarian Empire, Pannonian Croatia, the Kingdom of Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy, the Austrian Empire, Austria-Hungary, the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, the Kingdom of Serbia, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which, upon advice from the Ðilas Commission, assigned the eastern part of the region to the Federated Republic of Serbia and the western part to the Federated Republic of Croatia in 1945.

The presence of Croats has also been postulated.

Through history Bačka has been a part of Dacia, the Kingdom of the Iazyges, the Hun Empire, the Gepid Kingdom, the Avar Khanate, the First Bulgarian Empire, the Great Moravia, the Kingdom of Hungary, the Serb realm of Jovan Nenad, the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy, the Austrian Empire, Austria-Hungary, the Kingdom of Serbia, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, and since 2006, it is part of an independent Republic of Serbia.

During the 1992-1995 Bosnian war, Dedeic had been fundraising to support the Army of the Serb Republic under Ratko Mladić's command during his plight to support the Serbs fighting the Bosnian Muslims and Croats.

However, by 1914, World War I had broken out and Vučitrn was occupied by Austria-Hungary ; after the war when which the Central European powers had been driven out, Serbia joined the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

Yugoslavs has also historically been used referred to a Yugoslav supra-ethnic nation that has " tribal " ethnicities, such as Croats, Serbs, and others within it.

Through the history, the region of Mačva has been a part of: the Roman Empire ( 1st-4th century ), the Byzantine Empire ( 4th-5th century ; 5th-7th century ; 11th-12th century ), the Hun Empire ( 5th century ), Avar Khaganate ( 7th century ), the Slavic-controlled territories ( 7th-9th century ), the Bulgarian Empire ( 9th-11th century ), the Kingdom of Hungary ( 12th-13th century ; 14th century ; 15th century ; 16th century ), the State of Serb king Stefan Dragutin ( 13th-14th century ), the Serbian Empire ( 14th century ), the State of Nikola Altomanović ( 14th century ), the Moravian Serbia ( 14th century ), the Serbian Despotate ( 15th century ), the Ottoman Empire ( 15th century ; 16th-18th century ; 18th-19th century ), the Habsburg Monarchy ( 1718 – 1739 ), the Karađorđe's Serbia ( 1804 – 1813 ), the vassal Principality of Serbia ( 1815 – 1878 ), the independent Principality of Serbia ( 1878 – 1882 ), the Kingdom of Serbia ( 1882 – 1918 ), the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ( 1918 – 1929 ), the Kingdom of Yugoslavia ( 1929 – 1941 ), the area governed by the Military Administration in Serbia ( 1941-1944 ), the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ( 1944 – 1992 ), the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ( 1992 – 2003 ), and the Serbia and Montenegro ( 2003 – 2006 ).

There have been allegations that CW were used in the area of the former Yugoslavia: both Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Croats alleged that Bosnian government forces used chlorine during the conflict in Bosnia ; Bosnian Serbs allegedly used BZ against Moslem refugees in July 1995 ; and the FRY Army may have used BZ against Kosovo Albanians in 1999.

The dialect has been preserved since a group of Croats emigrated from Dalmatia abreast of advancing Ottoman Turks.

The Orthodox church had been viewed as promoters of Serb nationalism by many Bosniaks and Croats.

Tomac has been one of the most vocal supporters in Croatian politics of the Croats of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the pre-Roman ages, the Liburnians had been organized in 14 municipalities ( tetradekapolis ), the Croats probably used existing Illyrian municipality structure and had 14 županijas, Old Croatian political-jurisdictional forms ( municipalities ), as reported by Constantine Porphyrogenitus, while many of twelve Old Croatian tribes were settled in Liburnia.
