Lieutenant William Dawes and colleague Watkin Tench, who were ordered to lead the revenge party, expressed disgust at the idea.

Dawes and Tench had befriended the Aboriginals, and Dawes was even reported to have engaged in a relationship with an Aboriginal woman.

Among tribes, qualification may be based upon a required percentage of Native American " blood " ( or the " blood quantum ") of an individual seeking recognition, or documented descent from an ancestor on the Dawes Rolls or other registers.

The Cherokee require documented genealogical descent from a Native American listed on the early 1906 Dawes Rolls.

The modern Cherokee Nation, in the early 1980s, excluded them from citizenship, unless individuals can prove descent from a Cherokee Native American ( not Cherokee Freedmen ) listed on the Dawes Rolls.

The primary north-south street running parallel to the beach is Mission Blvd., with the streets named after late 19th century federal officials, then incrementing in alphabetical order as they move further from the coast: Bayard, Cass, Dawes, Everts, Fanuel, Gresham, Haines, Ingraham, Jewell, Kendall, Lamont, Morrell, Noyes, Olney, and Pendleton.

Thus, as Time magazine wrote during the controversial tenure of Vice President Charles G. Dawes, " once in four years the Vice President can make a little speech, and then he is done.

The next Vice President, Charles G. Dawes, did not seek to attend Cabinet meetings under President Coolidge, declaring that " the precedent might prove injurious to the country.

Harding appointed Charles Dawes, known for being an effective financier, as the first director of the Bureau of the Budget.

Dawes reduced government spending by $ 1. 5 billion his first year as director, a 25 % reduction, along with another 25 % reduction the following year.

In its 14 years the Weimar Republic faced numerous problems, including hyperinflation, political extremists ( with paramilitaries – both left and right wing ), and hostility from the victors of World War I, who tried twice to restructure Germany's reparations payments through the Dawes Plan and the Young Plan.

The book on which Dawes ' fame rests is his Miscellanea critica ( 1745 ), which gained the commendation of L. C. Valckenaer and Johann Jakob Reiske.

The Dawes committee, which was urged into action by Britain and the United States, consisted of ten informal expert representatives, two each from Belgium ( Baron Maurice Houtart, Emile Francqui ), France ( Jean Parmentier, Edgard Allix ), Britain ( Sir Josiah C. Stamp, Sir Robert M. Kindersley ), Italy ( Alberto Pirelli, Federico Flora ), and the United States ( Dawes and Owen D. Young ).
