By around the 5th century BC, people of the Dong Son culture, who lived in what is now Vietnam, had mastered basic metal working.

The Han sailor, Chen Di, in his Record of the Eastern Seas ( 1603 ), identifies the indigenous people of Taiwan as simply ( Dong Fan ) 東番, or " Eastern Savage ", while the Dutch referred to Taiwan's original inhabitants as " Indians " or " blacks ", based on their prior colonial experience in what is currently Indonesia.

Dong usurps state power and starts a reign of terror in which innocents are persecuted and the common people suffer.

In southern China, people speaking Kam – Tai ( Zhuang – Dong ) languages are mainly found in Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Guangdong, and Hainan.

Bullfighting is also historically popular among the Dong people ( Geary 2003: 199 ).

The Dong people are traditionally polytheistic with many elements of animism ( Geary 2003 ).

The Dong people also use rice grains, bamboo roots, snails, and chicken bone, eyes, blood, and eggs for divination.

During this time, there were exceptional landscape painters like Dong Yuan ( refer to this article for an example of his artwork ), and those who painted more vivid and realistic depictions of domestic scenes, like Gu Hongzhong and his Night Revels of Han Xizai.

General Zhang Fakui ( Chang Fa-kuei ), who based himself in Guangxi, established the Viet Nam Cach Menh Dong Minh Hoi meaning " Viet Nam Revolutionary League " in 1942, which was assisted by the VNQDD to serve the KMT's aims.

In the Chinese scholarly community, Tai – Kadai ( actually Kam – Tai ( Zhuang – Dong ), which excludes the Kra languages ) and Hmong – Mien have commonly been included in the Sino-Tibetan family.

With Yao Shi Fo / Bhaisajyaguru Buddha ( Medicine Buddha ), these two bodhisattvas create the Dong Fang San Sheng or the Three Holy Sages of the East.

According to records from Japanese documents, Mao Changxi ( 毛昶熙 ) and Dong Xun ( 董恂 ), the Qing ministers at Zongli Yamen ( 總理衙門 ) who handled the complaints from Japanese envoy Yanagihara Sakimitsu ( 柳原前光 ) replied first that they had heard only of a massacre of Ryūkyūans, not of Japanese, and quickly noted that Ryūkyū was under Chinese suzerainty, therefore this issue was not Japan's business.

Although few major Qiang invasions were carried out, never successfully, such a military deployment constantly drained the treasury and was a cradle for ambitious militarists, the most famous of whom was Dong Zhuo ( 130s – 192 ), the pretender to the Han court from 189-192.

* One should give lucky Dong Ho Paintings such as: " Gà đàn " ( wishing for having many children ), or " Vinh hoa ", but should not give unlucky Dong Ho paintings like " Đánh ghen " related to legal proceedings.
