Dou and Wu
In 167 CE, the Grand Commandant Dou Wu ( d. 168 CE ) convinced his son-in-law, Emperor Huan, to release them.
Following Huan's death, Dou Wu and the Grand Tutor Chen Fan ( 陳蕃 ) ( d. 168 CE ) attempted a coup d ' état against the eunuchs Hou Lan ( d. 172 CE ), Cao Jie ( d. 181 CE ), and Wang Fu ( 王甫 ).
He and his troops confronted Dou Wu and his retainers at the palace gate where each side shouted accusations of treason against the other.
When the retainers gradually deserted Dou Wu, he was forced to commit suicide.

He also developed deep bonds with his older sister Princess Liu Piao ( 劉嫖 ) and his younger brother Liu Wu ( 劉武 ), both also born of Empress Dou.
His mother, the Dowager Empress Dou, wanted him to make his younger brother Liu Wu, the Prince of Liang, the crown prince, but this did not happen because of opposition by officials.
Zhou, later as prime minister, offended virtually every powerful figure around Emperor Jing — his brother Prince Liu Wu and his mother Empress Dowager Dou ( for refusing to save Liang first when Liang was sieged by Wu and Chu forces ), and his wife Empress Wang and her brother Wang Xin ( 王信 ), whom Emperor Jing wanted to create a marquess but whose candidacy was rebuffed by Zhou.
This time Zhang Rang and his accomplices succeeded in completely dominating the political scene after prevailing over Empress Dowager Dou's father Dou Wu and his ally, the Confucian scholar Chen Fan ( 陳蕃 ) in 168.
For reasons unknown, her assistant Liu Shu ( 劉儵 ) recommended Marquess Hong, and after consulting with her father Dou Wu and the Confucian scholar official Chen Fan, Empress Dowager Dou made him emperor, at age 12.
The empress dowager's father Dou Wu and Chen became the most important officials in the imperial government, and they sought to purge the government of eunuch influences.
Dou Wu resisted, but was eventually defeated, and he committed suicide.

A major concern for Empress Dou was the welfare of her young son, Liu Wu, who had by that point been created the Prince of Liang, and he, at her suggestion, seriously considered making him crown prince over one of his own sons, although he ultimately did not do so.
Zhou's strategy would lead to victory, but would also earn him the enmity of Prince Wu and Empress Dowager Dou.
( When the imperial train could not locate Prince Wu, both Emperor Jing and Empress Dowager Dou was greatly distressed, and she accused him of killing Prince Wu.

Dou Wei (; born October 14, 1969 ) is a Chinese musician, singer-songwriter and composer.
Dou Wei has two daughters: one named Dou Jingtong ( born January 3, 1997 ), born to his ex-wife, Chinese pop singer Faye Wong, and the other one born to his ex-wife, photographer Gao Yuan.

Emperor Wu consolidated and extended the Chinese empire by pushing back the Xiongnu into the steppes of modern Inner Mongolia, wresting from them the modern areas of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai.
