For the Grand Alliance – Austria, England, and the Dutch Republic – the battle had followed an indecisive campaign against the Bourbon armies of King Louis XIV of France in 1705.

The following year the race was called the Zandvoort Grand Prix and in 1950 it became the " Grote Prijs van Nederland " or Dutch Grand Prix.

The Dutch Grand Prix was a round of the World Drivers Championship for the first time not a Formula One race, as the World Championship was for Formula Two cars that year and in 1953.

After 2 more years without a race the Dutch Grand Prix was back on the World Championship ( s ) calendar in 1958 and from then on remained a permanent fixture ( with the exception of 1972 ) until, when it was held for the last time.

In 1995, CPZ ( Circuit Park Zandvoort ) got the " A Status " of the Dutch government and began building an international Grand Prix Circuit.

William was also stadtholder of the main provinces of the Dutch Republic, then in the preliminary stages of joining the War of the Grand Alliance against France, in a context of international tensions caused by the revocation by Louis XIV of the Edict of Nantes and the disputed succession of Cologne and the Electorate of the Palatinate.

The 40-year-old Brabham was annoyed by press stories about his age and, in a highly uncharacteristic stunt, at the Dutch Grand Prix he hobbled to his car on the starting grid before the race wearing a long false beard and leaning on a cane before going on to win the race.

In 1602 the Dutch established a trading post at Grand Cape Mount but destroyed it a year later.

The war was fought primarily by forces supporting the unification – the Spanish loyal to Philip V, France, and the Electorate of Bavaria, together known as the Two Crowns – against those opposing unification – the so-called Grand Alliance among the Spanish loyal to Archduke Charles, the Holy Roman Empire, Great Britain, the Dutch Republic, Portugal and the Duchy of Savoy.

He spent some time in France and Italy on the Grand Tour and from 1728 to 1730 he attended Utrecht University in the Dutch Republic.

The 17th century falls into the Early Modern period of Europe and in that continent was characterized by the Dutch Golden Age, the Baroque cultural movement, the French Grand Siècle dominated by Louis XIV, the Scientific Revolution, and The General Crisis.

The melody was first used in Luxembourg ( at the time in personal union with the Kingdom of the United Netherlands ) on the occasion of the visit of the Dutch King and Grand Duke of Luxembourg William III in 1883.

After his sponsors stopped paying him before the 2005 German Grand Prix, Patrick Friesacher was to be replaced by Dutch Jordan test driver Robert Doornbos to create the first all-Dutch driver line-up in Formula one since Carel Godin de Beaufort and Ben Pon drove together for the Ecurie Maarsbergen team at the 1962 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

He did manage 4th at the San Marino Grand Prix, 5th at the German Grand Prix, and a single race win at the Dutch Grand Prix.

A few months later, on 20 May 1807, King Louis ( now called " Lodewijk ") altered these arms, adding a helmet, leaving out his brother ’ s star and replacing the Grand Aigle with his own Dutch Order of the Union and the old Dutch devise Eendracht maakt macht (" Unity makes strength ") around the shield.

He won from the front at the Dutch, French and Belgian Grands Prix, where title rival Moss was badly injured in a practice accident that put him out for two months.

In 2007, Bavaria sponsored the Dutch Champ Car Grand Prix.

In 1948, Circuit Park Zandvoort was built, hosting the Dutch Grand Prix for several decades.

The DFV won on its first outing, at the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix in the hands of Jim Clark, fitted to a Lotus 49, and from 1968 was available for purchase to any F1 team that wished it.

Jim Clark made his F1 Grand Prix debut, part-way through the season, at the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort on 6 June 1960.

Starting with a 2-litre Coventry-Climax engine in the Lotus 33, Clark did not score points until the British Grand Prix and a third place at the following Dutch Grand Prix.

Their first car, the Lotus 49 featuring the most successful F1 engine in history, the Ford-Cosworth DFV, won its first race at the Dutch Grand Prix, driven by Clark.

He also holds the record for most Grand Slams, taking pole, fastest lap, race win and leading every lap of the race in 8 races ( 1962 British Grand Prix, 1963 Dutch Grand Prix, 1963 French Grand Prix, 1963 Mexican Grand Prix, 1964 British Grand Prix, 1965 South African Grand Prix, 1965 French Grand Prix, 1965 German Grand Prix ).

The club is also particularly famous for its renowned youth program that has produced many Dutch talents over the years – Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, national team top scorer Patrick Kluivert, and former national team coach Marco van Basten.

Dutch physicists Hendrik B. G. Casimir and Dirk Polder at Philips Research Labs proposed the existence of a force between two polarizable atoms and between such an atom and a conducting plate in 1947, and, after a conversation with Niels Bohr who suggested it had something to do with zero-point energy, Casimir alone formulated the theory predicting a force between neutral conducting plates in 1948 ; the former is called the Casimir-Polder force while the latter is the Casimir effect in the narrow sense.

Ellen Gezina Maria van Langen ( born February 9, 1966 in Oldenzaal, Overijssel ) is a former Dutch middle distance runner.

The word is continued in German Deutsch ( meaning German ), English " Dutch ", Dutch Duits and Diets ( the latter referring to the historic name for Dutch or Middle Dutch, the former meaning German ), Italian tedesco ( meaning German ), Swedish / Danish / Norwegian tysk ( meaning German ) and Middle Low German dudesch meaning both Low German and the whole of Dutch / German / Low German, as well its descendant, modern Low German dütsch, meaning only Standard High German.

There was also a conflict with Indonesia, which ended with the Dutch withdrawing completely from their former colonies there in 1961.

Rejecting UN supervision, the Indonesian government under Suharto decided to settle the question of West Irian, the former Dutch New Guinea, in their favor.

Indonesia claimed all territories of the former Dutch East Indies, and previously viewed British plans to group the Straits Settlements, the Federated Malay States, the Unfederated Malay States, Sarawak and British North Borneo into a new independent federation of Malaysia as a threat to its objective to create a united state called Greater Indonesia.

The idea of uniting former British and Dutch colonial possessions in Southeast Asia actually have its roots in early 20th century, as the concept of Greater Malay ( Melayu Raya ) was coined in British Malaya espoused by students and graduates of Sultan Idris Training College for Malay Teachers in the late 1920s.

In 1998, the Dutch provided significant amounts of aid to the former Yugoslavia and Africa.

Most of West Papua, at that time known as Dutch New Guinea, was occupied, as were large parts of the Territory of New Guinea ( the former German New Guinea, which was also under Australian rule after World War I ), but Papua was protected to a large extent by its southern location and the near-impassable Owen Stanley Ranges to the north.

The former Dutch colony of Netherlands East Indies (" Nederlands-Indië ", now Indonesia ) has left its mark on The Hague.

Many streets are named after places in the Netherlands East Indies ( as well as other former Dutch colonies such as Suriname ) and there is a sizable " Indo " ( i. e. mixed Dutch-Indonesian ) community.
