Part of the section between Woodside and Addiscombe railway stations is now Addiscombe Railway Park and part has been redeveloped for housing as East India Way.

The San Andreas Fault links the East Pacific Rise off of the West coast of Mexico ( Gulf of California ) to the Mendocino Triple Junction ( Part of the Juan de Fuca plate ) located off the coast of the North Western United States making it a ridge-to-transform style transform fault.

Notably, Andreas Libavius, in his Alchemia of 1597 mentions a surface-whitened copper aes album by mercury or silver ; but in De Natura Metallorum in Singalarum Part 1, of 1599, the same term was applied to " tin " from the East Indies ( modern-day Indonesia and the Philippines ) and given the Spanish name: tintinaso.

* 1848 – California Gold Rush: the New York Herald breaks the news to the East Coast of the United States of the gold rush in California ( although the rush started in January ).

* 1989 – Several hundred East Germans cross the frontier between Hungary and Austria during the Pan-European Picnic, part of the events which began the process of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

* 1690 – Job Charnock of the East India Company establishes a factory in Calcutta, an event formerly considered the founding of the city ( in 2003 the Calcutta High Court ruled that the city has no birthday ).

* 1983 – The German magazine Der Stern claims that the " Hitler Diaries " had been found in wreckage in East Germany ; the diaries are subsequently revealed to be forgeries.

* 1945 – World War II: The Battle of Königsberg, in East Prussia, ends.

* 1970 – Chicano Moratorium against the Vietnam War, East Los Angeles, California.

* 1999 – East Timor voted for independence from Indonesia in a referendum.

* 1971 – Bangladesh Liberation War: The Pakistan Army and Razakars massacred approximately 3, 000 Hindu emigrants in the Jathibhanga area of East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh ).

* 1975 – East Timor: Governor Mário Lemos Pires of Portuguese Timor abandons the capital Dili, following a coup by the Timorese Democratic Union ( UDT ) and the outbreak of civil war between UDT and Fretilin.
