It was the second floating bridge to cross Lake Washington ; the first was the Lake Washington Floating Bridge, built in 1940 as part of U. S. Route 10, later part of Interstate 90, which at its construction was the largest floating structure ever built.
The Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge is the second longest floating bridge on Earth at, whereas the longest is the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge just a few miles to the north on the same lake, built 23 years later.
Floating wreckage from the plane was later found about 14 miles northwest of Pago Pago by the U. S. naval seaplane tender Avocet.
