By the early 80s, the Kinks revived their commercial fortunes considerably by adopting a much more mainstream arena rock style ; and the band's four remaining studio albums for Arista — Low Budget ( 1979 ), Give the People What They Want ( 1981 ), State of Confusion ( 1983 ) and Word of Mouth ( 1984 )— showcased a decidedly canny and opportunistic approach.

In his 2003 biography of Curtis Mayfield, titled " People Never Give Up ", author Peter Burns noted that Curtis has 140 songs in the Curtom vaults.

The compilation includes many of Lennon's most popular solo recordings, five of which had not yet appeared on an album: " Cold Turkey ," " Instant Karma !," " Power to the People ," the holiday single " Happy Xmas ( War is Over )," and " Give Peace A Chance.

Spangles were mentioned in the The Kinks ' song " Art Lover ", from their 1981 LP Give the People What They Want.

and Paradise Lost, and directed the touring company of Odets's Golden Boy and More to Give to People.

When asked in 1971 whether songs like " Give Peace a Chance " and " Power to the People " were propaganda songs, he answered: ' Sure.
