The district ( smallest in size among the 30 districts in Orissa ) has produced some of the most famous names in Oriya and Indian literature: Sarala Dasa, Birakishore, Gopal Chhotaray, Pratibha Ray and Bibhuti Patnaik, for example.

The new Viceroy Gilbert Minto and the new Secretary of State for India John Morley consulted with Congress leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale.

Ram Chandra Kak, a Kashmiri Pandit was considered, by Dr Vreese to be in possession of the Sarada script copy of the Nilamat PuranPandit RC Kak worked in London and produced his book Ancient monuments of Kashmir in 1933.

The book includes summaries of the life and work of amongst many others, 18th century scientists Jagdish Chandra Bose and George Washington Carver as well as Corentin Louis Kervran.

Jagaddhatri figures in the semi-historical fictional work ' Anandamath ' written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, from which book the national song of India " Vande Mataram " is taken.

The famous writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay was a magistrate in Narail and his book Neelkuthi was based on the forceful cultivation of indigo in Narail by the East India Company.

The gods unanimously decided to give Chandra the status of a planet and sent him into the cosmos.

Giacconi's pioneering research continued in 1978 with the Einstein Observatory, the first fully imaging X-ray telescope put into space, and later with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, which was launched in 1999 and is still in operation.

Girish Chandra Sen ( 1835 / 36 – 1910 ), a Brahmo Samaj missionary, was the first person to translate the Qur ' an into Bangla language in 1886.

Professor Charu Chandra Roy organised them into revolutionary groups during the agitations against the Partition of Bengal in 1905.

However, Singh's government soon fell victim to intra-party rivalries and power struggles, and his successor Chandra Sekhar's Janata Dal ( Socialist ) government lasted barely into 1991.

As an active member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army ( HSRA ), he came into contact with another well-known revolutionary, Chandra Shekhar Azad, who shot himself ( 1931 ) in a shootout with police in Allahabad.

Sometime in the 1920s, the Congress leadership was taken over by socialists like Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose, forcing liberals to move into a separate platform.

Incidentally, Chandra married into a prominent Sud family.

Chandra Varma had a privy army who escorted him on his campaigns until he came into Kodagu ( Coorg ).

The 60-year cycle is known as the Bṛhaspati ( or Vṛhaspati ) cycle and was first introduced into Tibet by an Indian Buddhist by the name of Chandra Nath and Chilu Pandit of Tibet in 1025 CE.

The Mukherjee Commission refers to the one-man board of Justice Manoj Mukherjee, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India which was instituted in 1999 to inquire into the controversy surrounding the reported death of Subhas Chandra Bose in 1945.

He chaired the enquiry into the death of Subhash Chandra Bose in 1956, and later became an Indian Government Central Minister.

Thereafter, having slipped from the hands of his son Yamkarna, the region of Saharanpur and neighbourhood went into the control of Chandra Dev, the Gahadvala ruler.

This report resulted into a serious altercation between Ishwar Chandra and College Secretary Rasomoy Dutta.

Justice Manoj Kumar Mukherjee, who probed into the disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, stated in his report that the sanyasi of Faizabad ( Bhagwanji ) was not Bose as there was no clinching evidence to prove it.
