On March 26, 2004 at the two-night Hardcore Hell event he defeated his protégé, " Kool " Seth Delay in an impromptu match, then teamed with Gabriel and Altar Boy Luke ( with Dusty Rhodes in their corner ) to defeat Rainman, Azrael and " The Fallen Angel " Christopher Daniels in a six man tag team main event on the following night.

Subsequently Byzantine toured with Lamb of God and Shadows Fall as well as played the main stage of New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in 2004 ( and later also in 2006 ).

Hardcore also received its own special in 2004 on BBC Radio 1 entitled John Peel Is Not Enough named after a CLSM track of the same name.

Other such cases included when 3 Count won the WCW Hardcore Championship in 2000, and when Matt Bentley and Frankie Kazarian co-held the TNA X Division Championship in 2004.

In April 2004, he created the GHC Openweight Hardcore Championship to get back into singles competitions, and adapting an attitude manifested by wearing trunks that were odd colors for him.

It was originally created in 2004 as a singles title known as the GHC Openweight Hardcore Championship ; in 2007 it was announced that it would be reformed into a tag team title, continuing with the same lineage as the original belt.
