The 1927 system developed by Herbert E. Ives at AT & T's Bell Laboratories was a large-screen television system and the most advanced television of its day.

And in fact, that effect was measured in 1938 by Herbert E. Ives and G. R. Stilwell ( Ives – Stilwell experiment ).

With Herbert E. Ives as co-inventor, Gray filed for two US patents in 1927: " Electro-optical system " ( US 2, 037, 471, issued April 14, 1936 ) and " Electro-optical transmission " ( US 1, 759, 504, issued May 20, 1930 ), and one in just his own name: " Television system " ( US 2, 113, 254, issued April 5, 1938 ).

Many of these, such as Herbert E. Ives ( who, along with G. R. Stilwell, performed the first experimental confirmation of time dilation ) have been motivated by the belief that special relativity is logically inconsistent, and so some other conceptual framework is needed to reconcile the relativistic phenomena.
