The county is divided into forty-nine townships: Ada, Anderson, Antelope, Barrett, Beck, Bison, Brushy, Burdick, Cash, Castle Butte, Chance, Chaudoin, Clark, De Witt, Duell, Englewood, Flat Creek, Foster, Fredlund, Glendo, Grand River, Hall, Highland, Horse Creek, Liberty, Lincoln, Lodgepole, Lone Tree, Maltby, Marshfield, Martin, Meadow, Moreau, Plateau, Rainbow, Rockford, Scotch Cap, Sidney, Strool, Trail, Vail, Vickers, Viking, Vrooman, Wells, White Butte, White Hill, Wilson, and Wyandotte ; and eight areas of unorganized territory: Duck Creek, East Perkins, Independence, Pleasant Valley, South Perkins, Southwest Perkins, West Central Perkins, and West Perkins.

The county is divided into twenty-four townships: Bryan, Carroll, Choteau Creek, Darlington, Forbes, Goose Lake, Hamilton, Highland, Howard, Jackson, Kennedy, La Roche, Lake George, Lawrence, Lone Tree, Moore, Platte, Plain Center, Rhoda, Roe, Rouse, Signal, Waheheh, White Swan ; and one area of unorganized territory: Castalia.

Highland is served by two public school districts: Redlands Unified and San Bernardino Unified School Districts ( the boundaries are generally defined by City Creek ; residents east of City Creek are in the Redlands Unified School District while those west of City Creek are served by San Bernardino City Unified School District ).

The two other schools in the district are Highland Regional High School and Timber Creek Regional High School.

The schools in the district ( with 2009-10 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics ) are Highland Regional High School ( 1, 133 students ; located in Blackwood ), Timber Creek Regional High School ( 1, 454 ; Erial ) or Triton Regional High School ( 1, 652 ; Runnemede ).

The two other schools in the district are Highland Regional High School and Timber Creek Regional High School.

Additionally, some town residents were upset about the fact that one of the developments, Highland Creek, was made possible by the sale of of land by town supervisor Philip Herrington and his brother Kenneth, a Rensselaer County legislator.

Though, to note, the Herrington brothers are successful dairy farmers ( owning the largest dairy farm in Rensselaer County ) and own a significant amount of farmland in the town ; the land of the proposed Highland Creek sits on former farmland.

It claimed that one, the town did not offer enough hearings regarding the planned Highland Creek development, and two, that the land on which Highland Creek would be built had not been properly rezoned for the development ( it was zoned for agriculture and never rezoned to allow a residential development ).

There are also 5 junior high schools: Brink, Central, Highland East, Highland West and Moore West, and 22 elementary schools: Apple Creek, Briarwood, Broadmoore, Bryant, Earlywine, Eastlake, Fairview, Fisher, Heritage Trails, Houchin, Kelley, Kingsgate, Northmoor, Oakridge, Plaza Towers, Red Oak, Santa Fe, Sky Ranch, Sooner, Southgate-Rippetoe, Wayland Bonds and Winding Creek.

Attractions in the Burnet area include the Highland Lakes, Longhorn Cavern, Inks Lake State Park, the Historic Burnet Square, the Highland Lakes Air Museum, Fort Croghan Museum and Grounds, the Vanishing Texas River Cruise, Hamilton Creek Park, Galloway Hammond Recreation Center, Delaware Springs Golf Course, and the Austin Steam Train Association's Hill Country Flyer.

On November 23, 1960, race car driver Ted Hogan and friend Bruce Tanner died when Hogan's light plane travelling from Oshawa Airport to the Island Airport crashed into Lake Ontario near Highland Creek in Scarborough, Ontario.

Based in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the campus is set upon suburban parkland in the residential neighbourhood of Highland Creek.

At that time there were substantial buildings in the Highland area, a castle in Codrington, a fort at River, now known as the Martello Tower, and houses at Palmetto Point, Coco Point, and Castle Hill.

The ethnographic division of Plain Nilotes, Highland Nilotes, River Lake Nilotes corresponds to the largest tribes in the Eastern, Southern and Western group, respectively.

The alignment of Route 18 through Middlesex County from Middlesex to Highland Park was first designated in the 1926 designing of a new highway system as State Highway Route S-29, a prefixed spur of New Jersey Route 29 ( U. S. Route 22 ) through Middlesex County, following Washington Avenue in Middlesex and the River Road in Piscataway until terminating at State Highway Route 27 near the Albany Street Bridge in Highland Park.

By the time the 1927 New Jersey state highway renumbering had been implemented and in law, the route was re-designated as State Highway Route S-28, a prefixed spur of State Highway Route 28 in Middlesex, following Raritan Avenue and River Road through Piscataway and Highland Park, joining State Highway Route 27 on a concurrency into New Brunswick, and onto George Street in New Brunswick southward.

Other scenes were shot in Chicago, River Forest, Oak Park, Northbrook, Highland Park, Glencoe and Winnetka, Lake Forest and Long Beach, California.

Only a narrow north – south strip running the length of the county on the west between the San Poil River and the Okanogan County line is covered by the Okanogan Highland.

These services include electricity, water, flood management, public parks along the Highland Lakes and lower Colorado River, and community and economic development services to rural and suburban communities.

The Lower Colorado River Authority operates six hydroelectric dams along the Colorado River in the Central Texas area that provide a source of renewable energy, and also formed six lakes that collectively are known as the Texas Highland Lakes:

LCRA operates 43 public parks, recreation areas and river access sites along the Highland Lakes and lower Colorado River.

It expanded its parks operations beginning in the 1990s to increase public access to the Highland Lakes and lower Colorado River.

* Highland Falls – The Village of Highland Falls in the eastern part of the town on the Hudson River.

West Point and the contiguous village of Highland Falls, New York, are on the west bank of the Hudson River.

* Highland Landing – A location southeast of Highland by the Hudson River.

Shelbyville is in Middle Tennessee at ( 35. 488988 ,-86. 452353 ), on a Highland Rim limestone bluff upon the banks of Duck River, which flows around the Southern and eastern sides of town.

The latter is a gorge sliced by the upper watershed of the Collins River ( Altamont is part of this watershed ) as the river descends from the plateau to the Highland Rim en route to its mouth at the Caney Fork in adjacent Warren County.

It is nestled along the banks of the Duck River at the southern edge of the Nashville Basin with the higher elevated ridges of the Highland Rim located to the south and west of the city.

* Kinross and Western Perthshire: the constituency consisted of the entire County of Kinross, the burghs of Aberfeldy, Auchterarder, Callander, Crieff, Doune, Dunblane and Pitlochry ; and the Central, Highland and Western districts of the county of Perth.

Eventually the school districts and newspapers of Highland Park and University Park were combined.

Historically, tartan designs were associated with Lowland and Highland districts whose weavers tended to produce cloth patterns favoured in those districts.

The Town has three distinct State-recognized historic districts — the Depot district located on Highland Avenue and Elm Street, Bonnet Street, just north of Main Street and Main Street itself.,

The new councils vary widely in size — some are the same as counties, such as Clackmannanshire, some are the same as former districts, such as Inverclyde and some are the same as the former regions, such as Highland.

Lochaber ( Scottish Gaelic Loch Abar ) is one of the 16 ward management areas of the Highland Council of Scotland and one of eight former local government districts of the two-tier Highland region.

As statutory local government areas, the Highland region and its districts were created in 1975, under the Local Government ( Scotland ) Act 1973, and abolished in 1996.

The 1994 legislation abolished regions and districts and established a system of 32 unitary council areas covering the whole of Scotland, and all of the Highland districts were merged into the new unitary Highland council area.

In 1996 the new Highland Council adopted the areas of the former districts as council management areas, and created area committees to represent them.

Sutherland became a local government area in 1890, and the county was abolished in 1975, when the Sutherland district was created as one of eight districts of the Highland Region.

In 1975, under the Local Government ( Scotland ) Act 1973, the county was divided between Caithness and Sutherland local government districts within the Highland region, with Tongue and Farr areas of the county of Sutherland becoming part of the Caithness district ( which also included the area of the county of Caithness ).

In 1996, Sutherland and the other seven districts of the Highland region were merged in to the unitary Highland council area, under the Local Government etc ( Scotland ) Act 1994.

The new Highland Council then adopted the former districts as management areas and created a system of area committees to represent them.

In 1975 the mainland part of the former county was effectively divided between three districts of the Highland region.

The Ross and Cromarty lieutenancy area combines the areas of two former districts of the Highland region: Ross and Cromarty, and Skye and Lochalsh.

When counties and burghs were abolished as local government areas, in 1975, under the Local Government ( Scotland ) Act 1973, the area of the county was divided between two new areas, the Highland region and the Western Isles, and the Ross and Cromarty district of the region was created as one of eight districts of the new region.

It was previously one of eight districts of the two-tier Highland region, 1975 to 1996, and one of eight management areas of the Highland Council, 1996 to 2007.
