Histories of the Holy Rosary often attribute its origin to Saint Dominic himself through the Blessed Virgin Mary.

It has with a Baroque portal ( 1667 ), a noteworthy bell tower, presbytery frescoes portraying the Histories of St. Peter and Virgin by Jacopo da Montagnana ( 1495 ) and Palma the Younger's altarpiece depicting Christ Crucifixed Between St. Augustine and St. Jerome.

When his father died in 1469, he completed the frescos with Storie della Vergine ( Histories of the Virgin ) in the cathedral.

His father, Nicholas Perrenot de Granvelle ( 1484 – 1550 ), afterwards became chancellor of the empire under Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, held an influential position in the Netherlands, and from 1530 until his death he was one of the emperor's most trusted advisers in Germany.

The first recorded cuirassiers were formed as 100-strong regiments of Austrian kyrissers recruited from Croatia in 1484 to serve the future Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian.
