Peter Brock, David Parsons and Peter McLeod in a Holden Commodore, who finished third, were awarded the victory.

** Peter Brock and Larry Perkins successfully defended their Bathurst 1000 title in Australia ; they and co-driver John Harvey won the race in a Holden Commodore.

The possibility briefly existed in the early 1980s for a revival of the Monaro badge based on a combination of the Holden VH Commodore and the Opel Monza with serious exploration of the concept and a Monza was shipped to Australia by Peter Brock but the project was shelved as it was a busy time at Holden with engineering work being done of Statesman and Gemini revamps and the launch of the JB Camira.

Even Australian touring car legend Peter Brock briefly tried AUSCAR in 1988 driving a Falcon ( after his 1987 split with Holden ) and again at his testimonial race meeting ( held on the Calder Park road circuit ) in 1995 driving a Commodore.

HSV effectively replaced the Holden Dealer Team ( HDT ) special vehicles operation run by Peter Brock, after Holden severed its ties with HDT in February 1987 following the " Energy Polarizer " and " HDT Director " controversies.

Local racing legend, Peter Brock, had plans to import, modify and market the Opel Monza Coupe as Holden Monza Coupe with the Holden 5 Litre V8 fitted, through his own HDT ( Holden Dealer Team ) business, but the plans eventually fell through.

Peter Brock was especially successful driving for the Holden Dealer Team in a supercharged Holden Torana GTR.

Brock and Bond were drivers for the Holden Dealer Team ( HDT ), which had been formed earlier in the year to take the fight to the factory Ford Special Vehicles division that was turning out the ever-evolving, race-ready GT-HO Falcons.

Brock and teammate Chivas were far out front in the lead and on track to score yet another victory for Holden ’ s ‘ pocket rocket ’ Torana XU-1, only to be beaten by Moffat ’ s hard-top GT after Chivas at the wheel of the XU-1 ran out of fuel.

Ultimately, Peter Brock would prove to be the ace of the Group C era, by having achieved an incredible two Bathurst hat-tricks ( three consecutive Bathurst wins twice ) while at the wheel of both the Holden Torana and soon-to-be-released all new Commodore, in 1978 – 1980 and again in 1982 – 1984.

When Schuppan was regularly returning home to Australia to race he was also a popular choice as a co-driver for top touring car teams such as Allan Moffat Racing, Dick Johnson Racing and the Peter Brock run Holden Dealer Team in the Sandown 400 and Bathurst 1000 races in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Skaife joined the Holden Racing Team for the 1997 Bathurst 1000, partnering Peter Brock.

This period saw a rise in the tribal style conflicts between Holden and Ford and in particular the two marques leading drivers, respectively Peter Brock and Allan Moffat who between them would claim seven of the eras 12 championships ( and nine of the associated Bathurst victories ).

1994 saw the return of Peter Brock to a factory Holden team to team with Mezera.

Brock also brought with him the sponsorship of Mobil and the team became the Mobil Holden Racing Team.

His last attempt at Bathurst was with the Holden Racing Team and was driving with the late Peter Brock.

Stevens told W. W. Holden, the Republican governor of North Carolina, in December 1866, " It would be best for the South to remain ten years longer under military rule, and that during this time we would have Territorial Governors, with Territorial Legislatures, and the government at Washington would pay our general expenses as territories, and educate our children, white and colored and both.

The district was populated mostly by Reagan Democrats who were still willing to vote Republican in most elections ( it voted for George H. W. Bush in 1992, Bob Dole in 1996 and George W. Bush in 2000 ), but Holden was re-elected four times without serious opposition.

While Holden voted with a minority of House Democrats in favor of the authorization for the use of U. S. force in Iraq in October 2002 for President George W. Bush, he strongly opposed Bush's " surge " policy in January 2007.

The main charges against Holden were related to the rough treatment and arrests of North Carolina citizens by state militia officer Col. George W. Kirk during the enforcement of Reconstruction civil rights legislation.

Holden had formed the state militia to respond to the assassination of Republican senator John W. Stephens on May 21, 1870 and the lynching of Wyatt Outlaw, an African American police officer in the town of Graham in Alamance County, as well as numerous attacks by the Ku Klux Klan.

After his removal from office, Holden moved to Washington, D. C., where he resumed work on a newspaper.

At the time of 1870 incorporation, consolidations were also made with the Labette & Sedalia Railway Co. and the Neosho Valley & Holden Railway Co. At this time MKT also acquired the Tebo & Nosho Railroad Co., the St. Louis & Santa Fe Railroad Co., and the Hannibal & Central Missouri Railroad Co.
