Within India, the major portion of the road – the stretch between Howrah to Kanpur is NH-2 and Kanpur to Delhi – is known as National Highway 91 ( NH 91 ) and that between Delhi and Wagah, at the border with Pakistan, is known as NH-1.

Amravati is situated on the branch line from Badnera on Bhusawal – Nagpur section of Mumbai ( CSTM ) – Howrah main railway line of Central Railways.

The city is rapidly expanding towards Badnera, 10 km to the south, an important railway junction where the branch railway line serving Amravati joins the main Mumbai – Bhusawal – Wardha – Nagpur – Howrah rail route.

After boarding a train From Samastipur, Prafulla was to get down at Mokamaghat, from where he intended to get on a train to Howrah.

It is well connected with Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Ujjain, Howrah, Bhopal, Mumbai, Jammu, Indore and all other major cities. There is a major technical and repair railway workshop in the city.

The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan also intended to construct his capitol at Agra as an urban center that would rival both Istanbul and Isfahan in all its wealth and cultural lifestyle. He even bestowed the title or surname " Chaudhury " to the family of Dutta Chaudhury, the very ancient Zamindar of Andul, which is situated in Howrah district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

The Great Banyan in the Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, is considered to be one of the largest trees in the world in terms of area covered.

Indian Railways introduced its first air-conditioned double deck train in 2011 on services between Howrah ( Kolkata ) and Dhanbad.

** This bridge, connected Howrah and Calcutta on opposite banks of Hooghly River, was built using timber on pontoon and was opened to let river traffic through.

The first Rajdhani Express left New Delhi station for Howrah station to cover a distance of 1, 445 km in 17 hours 20 mins.

There are also trains to Delhi, Motihari and Howrah connecting to major cities of Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

The Mission, which is headquartered at Belur Math in Howrah, WB near Kolkata, India, subscribes to the ancient Hindu philosophy of Vedanta.

The original monastery at Baranagar known as Baranagar Math was subsequently moved to Alambazar area nearby in 1892, then to Nilambar Mukherjee's Garden House, south of the present Belur Math in 1898 before finally being shifted in January 1899 to a newly acquired plot of land at Belur in Howrah district by Swami Vivekananda.
